You probably won't end up liking this story, but I decided to tell it anyway...

I found myself in a local town that I've been in a thousand times before. This time it was late Friday afternoon and I had some time to kill while I waited to meet someone. I decided to go to an older shopping center, one half of which I had (somehow) never explored. This turned out to be a good idea.

The first store sold used furniture and I immediately spotted some interesting things out front...at least from a distance. A closer look showed them to be a pair of XL100's from the late 70s. (as time passes these seem more interesting, but not enough to drag home!) The store next door, though, had something older. The front window was piled high with junk, including a typical 21” bw set from the fifties. Where there is one there may be others? I wanted to look inside but the front was so piled up that you could no longer get in the door! What the heck, I'll go around back. The door there was open so I went inside. From that angle I could see that much of the stash up front was actually boxes and boxes of Sams Photofacts. I think I found the right place! As I'm poking around, spotting what look like 60s TV sets, the owner comes in. Not the friendliest sort but he didn't mind me being there, either. After a bit I told him of my hobby and he started directing me to things I might be interested in. First was over to a side room-his description made it sound like a color roundie but it turned out to be an early rectangular RCA. What's more, it was playing! It needed attention, with a short raster and washed-out color. I spotted another set in that room when he called me back out to the main section and a Zenith roundie combo.(but with a busted crt) Next was an Airline combo (rectangular). The back was loose so I took a look-all the tubes were robbed from the radio chassis...get this, the TV chassis was a Magnavox! Then I spot what sure looks interesting from the back-an Olympic roundie! Only I find that the set was gutted and turned into a dresser. (I'd have to say they did do a good job of it) At some point I was able to get out of him that these could be had for $50 a piece. I knew that I couldn't take any home right away; I would have to let my friends on AK know about this find so they could share in the bounty, as it was clear there were other sets hidden that I couldn't see.

Okay, I started out by saying you wouldn't like this story...

What happened next?

I woke up.

The whole thing, right down to the shopping center, is just a figment of my imagination. I can only offer this: if you'd like to see the place, try eating most of a box of Vanilla Wafers right before you go to bed. Maybe you'll end up there!

I've had that dream from time to time as well. I once had a dream where I was working on some electronics that used rectangular vacuum tubes (not CRTs, but regular looking plates and cathodes and grids to make triodes, pentodes and such, several of these functions enclosed in a 14 pin dual in line glass envelope!).

I dreamed once I was in New York City in the late '60s, & was walking down that one street where they had all the camera/electronics shops, & there were all these weird & exotic teeny, tiny TVs-and instead of being junky old black & white, they were ALL in color...Imagine those Symphonic "Minni TV" you see on You Know Where all the time, but they were color...

I've had those dreams before... every conceivable object of technological lust has figured in, from Sony SL-HF-1000s to Cadillacs to Kirby Vacuum cleaners to ENG-grade camcorders. I've on at least one accasion woke up, gone downstairs and out to the driveway to LOOK for the Cadillac.

I once had one where I found a GIANT bag with all the capacitors I could ever need. Then I lost the bag and spent all night looking for it.

Interesting dream you had. I usually go to a place called dreammoods.com to look up unusual concepts i've experienced during a dream. They say seeing tv's in your dreams may represent watching how your own brain operates or in this sense it could represent treasure with a sense of hollowness. Just my 2 cents worth, Logan

Notice how each great find ends up being twarted by something being wrong, or stuff being in the way or being led away by the owner. I have had dreams like that what you want to happendoes not. Like get the girl, get a cool radio/tv or old car or just to get from here to there. I wonder if it boils down to self esteem?

Dreams are funny things. I've had a few dreams about gear and technical things, too, some rather 'cool', too. A few more about bizzare buildings and architecture, a recurring theme throughout my whole life: not very common or frequent, but often the most powerful/memorable ones. For some reason, I remember almost all my architecture dreams, in greater detail than most other types. :headscrat :screwy:

Yeah- About 25+ years ago, I used to have this dream. It was Fall 1966, I was in northern Kentucky, going across the Ohio River into Cincinnati, in a spankin' new 1967 Lincoln Convertible sedan. The top was down-of course !- & this guy Chris Montez was on the radio, singing "Call Me". Nothing really HAPPENED, I was just cruising along in this neat car on a beautiful fall day...
