I have a Sony Trinitron KV-20V50 television, and the picture has a small level of "ghosting" that I can't figure out how to remove. This ghosting occurs with all inputs, including S-video and composite from our DVD player and OTA digital converter box. The ghosting is not chromatic, but is mostly grayish when seen on a white background. Except for the ghosting, the image looks great -- colors are perfect, etc....

I've already tweaked the picture adjustment through the tv menu. I can't find any screws which can be used to adjust the picture in other ways (e.g. horizontal, vertical) like found on the older Trinitron's. (Maybe the screws are there, but if so, they've done a good job of hiding them!) I've even tried three different s-video cables in case it was a cable being funky.

Are there other adjustments that can be made, such as screws inside the set? Or does any further adjustment require a service person? (Our set is probably not worth having a professional service it.)

If it's a convergence issue, which it kind of sounds like, try adjusting the HSTAT control. I don't know if your set still has one though.

I'm not sure if it has a HSTAT control. I've scoured all around the outside of the set and see no picture adjustment screws like my older 13" Sony has (which has HSTAT). Before I take off the cabinet and check inside, I wanted to get feedback. Maybe someone here has free access to the service manual and can look in there?

Some of the later sets had the hstat control on the CRT neck board. Watch out! There are voltages on that CRT board that will zap you!

I do not recall exactly when the KV-xxVxx series were built, but i'm guessing early to mid 90's.Those sets' service mode was accessed by either keystokes via the remote or by a hole on the rear of the set that you had to push while turning on the TV power.

If you are unfamiliar with the adjustable parameters, it might be wise to leave it to someone who knows what they are doing.

As noted in my message which started this thread, some picture adjustments are made via the controller menu. They include 'picture', 'hue', 'contrast', and 'sharpness' (this is from memory, might be one more...) But not included on that list is HSTAT, which is what others are recommending I try adjusting.

I've not seen any button (even if inset in a screw hole) that one presses while turning on the tv, but that doesn't mean it is not there.

I'd love to get the repair manual as it probably will detail all this information, but I simply don't want to spend the $9.95 or $14.95 to purchase a copy online. I am hoping someone here has a subscription to get a copy for free and then let me know what other adjustments are available to me and how they are done. I don't yet want to take the rear cabinet off to access the innards.
