Someone is currently offering the almost-working (has raster) guts of an Admiral 30A1S for sale on eBay and states that the cabinet is not included although the seller has a photo of the (blond) cabinet in the listing and apparently still has it. I've contacted him/her to ask what price would change the "no cabinet" terms on this set so that it can be rescued for historic preservation. Not sure if my message was read yet, just sent maybe an hour ago. Anyone else want to see the set and perhaps offer to buy the complete set to rescue it from becoming a fish tank or some other terrible fate? Just thought I'd see if some other collectors are on the same wavelength that perhaps this set can be spared if the buyer is made aware of the interest in historic preservation that exists.

I've been swamped lately. Working in the shop 6 days, 10 hours trying to keep up with customers' sets. Posted an ad on the Web site of an ultra-conservative talk show host and severely underestimated the number of oldtimers and collectors of vintage tv and hi-fi who would be listening to a talk show that makes Limbaugh sound like a Liberal. What I like about this guy's show is that anyone can say anything at all on the air ... absolute free speech no matter how controversial or unpopular the caller's views may be. Opinions that corporate media won't touch with a ten-foot pole air freely. Granted some of the callers are nuts, the concept of absolute freedom of speech may sometimes be ugly but is essential IMHO.

If the seller is offering this without the cabinet but shows a pic of one, I suspect he's keeping it to reuse but with a modern chassis.

It is missing the speaker and knobs, and hasn't been turned on since 1984., but the cabinet, power supply and crt are intact. I may be willing to sell, or swap all or part of it, for another tv, like a ctc 5 or 7, or a g2000

Per an email I received from the seller yesterday, he is willing to swap a cabinet from another set (perhaps one with the guts already missing, not necessarily one as hard to find as the blond 30A15). If someone has a set that isn't all that collectible but still has a similar appearance (perhaps a later model console) and its insides are too far gone to be anything but a "parts" set (air-dud CRT, blown transformers, etc) then we might have a solution here to save a rare set that's in unusually nice shape. It looks to me like cleaning the tuner and re-forming the "lytics" in the vertical circuit would bring the picture back and get the raster to fill the mask with no foldover ... then it would be a simple matter of recapping a working set as a preventive measure.
