Hello, First time posting here. I recently found a Zenith Avanti at the store Waves here in New York. I was unable to get the model number from the set, because when I returned the following day I was shocked to hear that it had been purchased by MTV. It will be blown up as part of a tribute video for the Who. This seems like a shame since it's not the easiest set to find, and it has a great spage age look. Anyway, based on the pic can anyone provide a year of this set, or perhaps a lead on where I may find one? Thanks in advance for the help.

I worked on a couple of those TV's, both were infested with cockroaches.

I'd say mid '70's. It probably uses the upright chromacolor II chassis. I've seen a similar model from the early '70's that was not remote and used the horizontal "vacuum-tube looking" solid state chassis. I suspect that cabinet style would be hard to find as most people of the day wanted more traditional looking cabinets. Start hitting all the thrift stores, estate sales, etc. You might just find something.

I think the more common of these is a 25" that sits a little closer to the ground. There have been several offered through various sites over the last couple years-a number of folks have saved them due to that unique style. The nice thing as that these were not just interesting to look at-they were among the best tv sets ever produced anywhere.

Yes, the 25" version with the horizontal solid state chassis that I saw had a fantastic picture even though it was over 20 years old at the time.
