just a rec for those of you who seek out the strange, the unheralded, under the radar films that reward your efforts --
Mister Lonely, ostensibly about a young man who makes a living as a Michael Jackson impersonating street performer in Paris who meets a Marilyn Monroe impersonator (Samantha Morton) and is persuaded by her to come live at the commune of other impersonators with whom she lives in a castle in Scotland.
there is also a sub-plot about a missionary priest in central america (Werner Herzog) who supervises a group of nuns who inadvertantly discover they can fly when one falls out of a plane while drop shipping rice to obscure villages.
a true 'through the looking glass' tale of illogic, whimsy, fantasy that asks the age old questions: who are we? what is our purpose? what is the role of faith? what is beyond what we can see and know?
