"Residents of Wilmington, NC will soon become laboratory rats in the nation's transition to digital tv".

That's the lead line in a USA Today story that explains that the FCC plans to make this area a digital TV test market to work out any bugs before the entire nation goes all digital on Feb. 17.

All four commercial broadcasters in the Wilmington region have agreed to turn off their analog signals and broadcast in digital only starting Sept. 8.

I'm going to try this, but if it doesn't work, the story is in the "Money" section.

Can you just imagine what it's going to be like on Sept. 8?

I can hear the phone ringing at the TV Stations, the radio stations, the newspaper and the Police Department as soon as people turn on their TV and it's just not there. No analog signal at all.

I bet 911 will be overloaded.

Film at 11.

This is going to be a lot of fun. I used to work in the Tech dept for Time Warner Cable in NYC some years ago and let me tell you when the service goes out IT ISN'T PRETTY!! These people can get pretty violent especially the sports fans. I'm glad I'm out of that business.

I lived in Wilmington quite a few years ago.

I'd like to be there Sept. 8 to" watch the show". :D

Will be better than the Battleships' one I'm sure

and it won't take much to overload their 911 system-I worked for the company that sold them their software(bugs, patches, more bugs, hacked code)

I would think that perhaps the outlying areas will fare worse-pender\blade\dublin counties-lots of rural shanties\shacks with antennas

In places like Tin City in Duplin County? Probably will be rough!

Why couldn't they do it during March Madness? That would have really been insane! :D
