I am in need of the service manual or any type of assistance in resetting the manual converence back to the factory presets. This is my brother's TV. He decided to play around with the 50 or so pots on the board and is now in deep doo doo. The picture looks like s#$t. He's spent hours fiddling with the board with no apparent success. Can anyone help me out?

I can't give you specific information about this set, but as long as the pots are labeled you should be able to adjust it without the manual.

Basically, you need to cover the red and blue lenses and connect a cross hatch generator. Adjust the green for good size, linearity and geometry. Then uncover the red and adjust it to overlap with the green. Finally, cover the red and uncover the blue and adjust the blue. The most important step is getting the green correct because it will be the reference for the other two. The green usually has fewer adjustments.

Thanks Andy now for totally uneducated question number 2. Where do I get a crosshatch generator? I saw what look like some very old ones on ebay. Would they work? I did find new ones but they were about $180 and hopefully this is a one time repair job.

Hi this is the owner of the set. It is a Toshiba TP48D70 that is about 9yrs old. A friend showed me where the color gun pots were. Bad idea!!!! I have screwed it up pretty good. I have a switch that I can toggle to go green, green and blue, and green and red. So I don't have to turn off the guns do I? I have nothing to relate the green gun to. Is that why I can't seem to get the other colors to line up worth a crap? I have spent hours fiddling with the pots( my thumbs are sore), and I would say at least 20% of the screen is way out of wack. Halos and obvious miscoloration. If I knew that the set would return to an as new condition I might even consider paying a pro to set it up but that seems overkill for an old set like mine.. Any advice would be great.Pat.

In a pinch, you can use anything that will display a steady, solid image to do convergence. I've used the menu screens from VCRs, video games, etc.

Some of those set had a switch or jumper that turned on an internal cross hatch or just a single cross.
If not maybe some one up your way could record the crosshatch on a vcr tape.

I know what Pat is busy doing right now!!! Hope your thumbs don't fall off fiddling with those pots again.
