While I was home last week with the killer flu I found a bad mica in the horiz osc which was giving a very odd picture. All scrunch up in the middle. I did learn a very important lesson. Don't trust dvm on these old sets. when in doubt use an analog meter for voltages. On the 6SN7 horz osc tube with the dmv the grid voltages where way off but the set seem to be working ok. It was making me nutz! Out of desperation I double cheched it with my trusty old Triplett Red Dot 610 and it was on the nose. Go figure. Anyway it was up a running during my recovery and was very pleasant to watch. When the weather gets a bit warmer here I'll start on the cabinet, it's pretty rough but it was only $.99 Here's some pic's

DVMs sometimes respond adversely in horizontal sweep circuitry.

If you are having horizontal instability issues with that set you might want to consider the action taking place at the lower right corner of your posted pics as a culprit. :D

Fair warning. The beutiful grains on outside of doors is Pho finnish. Don't strip! Gum wood underneath! Will give you heart failure.....

Looks like you also need a new pix. tube.

That was no mica cap. Bet it was on the oscillator-coil bottom. It's made of molded beige crud. I still have an un-restored KCS-47 in storage, so I'll hafta pull it out and dissect this cap to see what's inside...
