I was looking closely at the record cabinet I bought at the SA and realized that it used to be a TV - it has a metal bottom under the newly created wood floor.

Does anyone know what type of TV this could have been?

Most likely around late 60's thru mid 70's. If you held a gun to my head and told me to guess. I'd say 1969. Nice cabinet it looks to be solid wood. I guess that is why they made something out of it instead of throwing it away. It might have held a roundie color set which croaked in the late 70's and the owners didn't want to pay the repair bill for a out of fashion tv set, but they didn't want to throw away a nice piece of furniture. I saw this happen many times in my neighborhood back in the early 80.

Those doors are added after the fact.

Zenith used metal covers on the bottom of their sets (not screen), but many others likely did to. Whatever remains of the fasteners for the back cover could be another clue.

Didn't zenith's high end sets use Drexel cabinets? That looks drexelish to me.

Motorola advertised cabinets by Drexel®, but that doesn't mean Zenith DIDN'T use Drexel® cabinets.

Im pretty sure zenith made thier own cabinets for everything. Can you take a photo of the bottom of the set? It can be identified by how the bottom of the cabinet is built. If the entire bottom is metal and has oval slotted holes, then its safe to say that cabinet was for an RCA set.

Yesterday I was in an antique mall and spotted a somewhat interesting former tv cabinet. Built sometime in the 70s, it had tambour doors that looked original to the cabinet. It was converted very similiar to the posted set.

A friend of mine gave me a pile of old tv speakers once. His grandfather had a booth at the flea market where he would sell converted TV cabinets that he had gutted.

looks similar to an RCA 19" console. I think from around 1966 that used the CTC-19 chassis? We had one with a cabinet like that.

Zenith or Motorola is my take--although it could've been RCA or Sylvania for that matter if we're talking late '60s, early '70s. That was a popular cabinet style at the time IIRC.

The storm shutters were not part of the original plan.

the antique mall in east columbus has the same cabinet housing a 19" rca accucolor. identical cabinet. asking 125.00. set plays very well and this is all original. 1969-1970 vintage. i like it,but not for 125.00. i would love it for 50.00!
