First I want to thank everone here, I have learned so much since I have been lurking arount the forums. I am interested to know if anyone here has restored a 628.
The 628 has been by far the most time consuming and most difficult resrtoration I have worked on. The set suffered a major failure early in its life with a bad power transformer and open voltage divider resistors with shorted eletrolytic caps. The set had most of the Emerson branded tubes and an Emerson crt with a period date code. The set is close to becoming operational only have a horizontal sync issue now. My real concern right now is the power transformer gets real hot after only 20 minutes of operation. I had the transformer rewound and it ran cool with no load on it. Was this set know for problems in its day. I am not real experienced in these early tv's, but this has the hottest running transformer of any tv that I have restored. The low voltage powersupply voltages are all within 10 volts of what the
SAMS shows.
Many thanks for any informaion on this set.
