Have any of you serviceman ever been in a home that has something so huge? There is room for two 25" screens between the speakers.

Were there special Magnavox TV's(or any brand) only usually seen by the wealthy?

It has a squelch control and a knob labeled TIMBRE... what's that ? Maybe echo/reverb?
It has a fancy metal label on the back saying it's from Ken Cranes Magnavox City. I guess they commision some custom furniture company to create it.
Could it be a true one of a kind? I mean cabinet style. Of coarse it is a one of a kind in being in Sammy's Palm Springs house.

A high school buddy's dad has a large Maggie console with Bass, Midrange, Treble and Timbre. I thought it was part of the eq circuit, but looking back I think it may have been a circuit that expanded the sound slightly. Sort of a variable "wide stereo". (Of course, I may be wrong.)

The Sammy Davis set appears to be a Magnavox Imperial from about 1965-66 that was installed in a custom cabinet. It would have remote control and search tuning. The squelch just kills the noise between FM stations. I don't remember any Magnavox console that had a midrange control. On an Imperial and the High End Magnavox stereos you would find a Bass and Treble control, both are switches that switch in different values of components. The Timbre control is to control how much of the very high frequencies you want to hear.

IMHO the Sammy Davis set would be valuable because of who owned it rather than what it is.

I didn't think of remote. I will ask the owner if he can drive back to Sammy's place to look for it.

I wrote the seller and advised him the remote would be greatly valued even if it's broken into pieces.

I also suggested he could possibly find Altovese and ask if she knows what happened to it. She is well-known for being extremely kind and generous.

Actually the remote is the same pneumatic one that the TV's used at the time. It has two rectangular buttons that squeeze down on a bellows and then open a valve that forces the air through an ultrasonic whistle. They show up on ebay frequently look for the name Phantom.

That's funny somebody else wrote that the Imperial has a full function remote. I would think a full function remote should do more that on/off volume and channel. To spend over $6,000 in 1965 and be given the same remote that any of thier TV's had seems a little far-fetched. So, did they advise the customer to not have a Magnavox remote TV in the vicinity?

I wonder if whoever claimed the Phantom TV remote would operate an Imperial system was imagining me searching and searching for The Phantom remote then buying it and patiently waiting for it only to have it not work. Would he be looking forward to me asking all the extremely generous to strangers TV people here how to fix it?

Again, I asked here because it's clear somebody in the TV section would know more of the special system than all others I've read about in the audio categories. Also, the audio sections seem to have so much traffic that many are apparently too busy with people they know. It seems all in the audio sections find old stereos like that Imperial to be completely uninteresting.

For what it's worth, Randy is a former Magnavox tech and a real expert on their products. A swell guy, too!

On another note: RadiationKing is definately the funniest possible brandname one could dream up for an old TV.

Nice cabinet but the guts look rather pedestrian. You'd think Sammy might have some better stuff.
