Nice higher end zenith. Its a '67 and most likely uses the 23XC38Z chassis. Someone able to save it out there? It works too as usual!

Nice, that's just like the one I had but in a better cabinet, it seems late 60s Zeniths in the nice cabinets are rare, if mine had that cabinet I would have held on to it. I would bid on that one, but it's too far away from here too.

The 23XC38Z is a great set, I'd like to find another, but one in the higher end cabinet like that one on ebay, or even better one in the good cabinet with the space command.

That set has made the trip from Berkeley to LA, to San Diego, and now up to Sacramento. It was my daily watcher for quite a while. I wonder if in 10 / 20 years we won't be finding old sets on craigslist, ebay, estate sales, thrift stores, etc, anymore, only us old TV guys will have them, so we'll just trading them between us like this one has been.

I've been wondering that also. I think you're right, we'll be trading them amongst ourselves. Better that than nothing at all! Thank you to all that collect and restore these wonderful pieces of history!

I too think this will be the case. Tube TV sets were very common 8 or 10 years ago. They have been getting harder to find year by year. I collect tube radios and even ones from the '30's are more common than most early '70's tube TV sets. Radios were usually small enough to be put in the closet, attic, or barn and forgotten about for 50 years. TV's could not be hidden away as easily; therefore, most of them got discarded when they died or became "too old". The exception might be a nice console TV that the owners kept because of the cabinet. Even a lot of those wound up getting stripped and only the cabinet remains. I've even been asked to strip the insides out of console TV's in exchange for the chassis. There's a lady in town right now that has a Motorola console that I have been "putting off" gutting for her for about 15 years! I need to find an empty cabinet and see if she'll trade. Most of the tube sets that I used to find were from the elderly and they were usually consoles or big table models that may have been too heavy for them to lift; therefore, I got called to come haul it away. Usually when someone passes away, the kids / grandkids just come in and toss everything related to vintage electronics because they see it as junk and can't imagine anyone wanting it.

well, I asked about a model and chassis number. I got some numbers:

Model 25X4539, 23XC38Z chassis. The seller claims that its her mother in law's TV and they are cleaning the house out. IF it fails to sell on ebay, its going to the dumpster. This set is too nice to get junked. Remember TV collectors, they will only get harder to find as time passes..........Also remember that these are harder to find than roundies and these deserve respect too!

Im sure its dead now. The lady selling it wanted to throw it out and was probably discouraged seeing that there were no bids yet. Another nice set crushed and destroyed...........

Well, its confirmed now. Its dead. I emailed yesterday to ask if its still available and this is the nice friendly reply I got:

"Sorry, we did throw it away---there weren't any bids. Too bad but that is the way it goes sometimes."

I hate impatient people. The damn auction wasnt over yet! WTF!

That's definitely poor business if nothing else. No one who knows anything about ebay bids before the last minute!

That's not what I wanted to hear; but, that sort of thing happens all too often, I'm afraid. What burns me up is the people that call to offer me a free TV and then trash it if in not there within 30 minutes of hanging up the phone to pick it up. Yes, most people wait to the last minute to bid on ebay auctions! I've found that I can possibly get stuff cheaper that way. I've also learned that ebay is the last place to sell TV's (or any large item) unless the potential buyer lives within driving distance.

This set was the bottom of the line Zenith and this unit I think retailed for about $559. It's cabinet was the scarcer one (fancier one) The regular cabinets of this style were $499.
