Hi All
Just wondering...before I put the back cover back on this TV. RCA Chassis CTC 130A, circa 1988. I got a RCA replacement universal remote for TV sets made after 1990 and verified that the replacement does work. None of the provided codes work for my TV...I do have the Sam's photoFact folder for it. I asume I have a problem in the TV's remote receiver/preamp, etc. Is there anything I can check out quick before I button it up. Does this chassis have a history in the field of "no remote operation" condition? Too bad it shows a like-new picture, but the party who wants it must have a remote with it.
Thanks in advance for anyone's two cents.

Somewhere in the back of my mind I was thinking there were some electrolytic caps in the MTT tuner module that were prone to give problems and I think no remote operation may have been one of them. Also, those MTT modules were prone to have loose solder connections on the plugs and on the wirewrap stakes. I'd also check to see if I had voltage going to the remote receiver.

if you pull the tuner module and solder all the pins that insert into the molex connectors I think your problems will go away.

The mtt tuner were notorious for ring cracks on those posts

Yes... Resolder ALL of the plug pin connections in the MTT, and also look at all the pads that are soldered to the frame. If that doesn't do it, does that set use an MCR remote module? Those MTT modules would do all kinds of strange things when the solder connections start to crack. I got calls for those TVs that would pop on in the middle of the night, and the volume going up by itsself, etc.

Any IR universal remote should work on that set, at least for basics. In fact, the only IR TVs that won't work on any universal are Sony's first IR sets from 1979. (KV-2643, etc). All RCAs will.
