Went to see Across the Universe tonight - mostly because it was scheduled to play at off time when I wanted to go to movies. I hadn't heard too much good about this so I was thinking it was probably going to be iffy. When I bought our tickets the girl at the desk said "great movie". OK maybe there is hope.

It starts out slow and I really wasn't sure I would like it. But by a 1/4 way in I was hooked. I recall an article trying to describe why the Beatles were soo successful. It said the basic reason was they could flat out sing! And the remaking of all these great Beatles songs hit's the mark becasue the actors can flat out sing!

There's a great version of Come Together with none other than Joe Cocker. Bono does I Am the Walrus. But those aren't the only highlights. The songs are fresh, current, and...young!

If you've been on the fence about seeing this movie, and you love the Beatles, I think you'll like it. Now I want to take the kids (all adult) and see what they think.

Thanks for the review - it sounds like a blast. We thought about seeing it on Thanksgiving Day but the times and location didn't work out. I'm going to try to see this in the next week or so before it's hard to find in the local theaters.

I loved it, but my wife and son did not. I was around in the 60's, but didn't do much beyond the ordinary. There were hundreds of cultural references in the movie that make it very rich. "Dear Prudence" ends up with an entirely different take for sure!
