here is my daily watcher. i have a 106 inch dlp projection system in my movie room,yet i watch this zenith constantly.i have another zenith(same set,different cabinet)that looks as good,maybe a tad better.i hope it lasts another 33 years!

Ohh, a debate I've been shy about expressing my opinoin, but HD is great for realizm of the image you are seeing, the more the subjects move and the closer you get to the TV, the worse it gets. Rear projection TV's are dark. The best resolution in my opinon is 13 in color set made 30 years ago. HD is cra- against a 25 in Zenith console, IMHO

It's hard to beat the picture on those old Zenith sets! I used to find a lot (and I mean, A LOT) of '70's Zenith Chromacolor's around here. And, yes, that set could very well go another 33 years. The most severe trouble I ever had with one was the Tripler shorting and taking the flyback and HOT with it. Other than that; it was usually loose module contacts, a bad module ever now and then, and sometimes that oval oil filled cap in the P/S would short. It's sort of cool to watch some of those old '70's shows like the Rockford Files, Kojak, etc...on those old sets.

i watch bonanza,gunsmoke,cheyenne,etc. on this, this is the one with the 25vdmp22. the other has a different tube. it looks very nice and i cant decide with i like better. vhs and dvd look outstanding on this set.zenith quality may have peaked with these sets. too bad they went down later. again the question: why no sylvanias in this forum???

Well, I'm trying to work on finding a real Sylvania for this forum. Those are getting harder to find (like all older TV's). Of course, I see plenty Philips and Funai Sylvania's; but, that's about all.

Here is my old, ugly Sylvania. It already looks better than it does here-cataracts are gone, it has a new paint job...it makes a raster but the tuner assy. is gone. When I get that I'll show it off. I have a hard time remembering the last 70s Sylvania I encountered.

I have an early 1970s Sylvania color hybrid set in my workshop that I use all the time. Works fine, even with HDTV tuner connected.

what chassis is that hybrid? i am very partial to those d-16 chassis and those early solid states. 25 inch?

I have not had the back off of it in several years, so do not remember the chassis number at this point. I do remember that the vertical and horizontal sections were still based on tubes. The horizontal output tube is a 36JE6 or 36KD6 if I remember correctly.
I think that it is a 21 inch tube. It is a square box TV, with little styling in a metal (wood grain finish) case. The non-tuner related controls(execpt vol/on/off) are behind a door below the speaker. The Tuning knobs(and vol/on/off) are above the speaker. The vol/on/off control is the uppermost knob. All controls and speaker are on the right side of the set.

i had an old 19 inch table model when i was a kid. bought it from a neighbor for 12.00 i had saved. it had the 36kd6 tube. once a year it would fail and it cost about 6.00 at the drugstore. remember when they had tube testers? that was a great set and i learned alot from it. it spent much time on top of our philco roundie that seemed to be always broken. i have had a soft spot for sylvanais ever since. zenith is still the best quality!

Bgadow I remember that picture, I'd like to see how nicely its come along. I have a 1974 gte sylvania with the black-face 25'' tube. It is a real loser though, metal cab, and blown power supply. It went up in smoke after 10 minutes of troubleshooting. I plan on ordering some new caps for the can-filters and maybe checking for some diodes or other issues in the PS. The vid-out drivers were also low gain too, though, so Im guessing the power supply in general is toast.

e-1 chassis? that was a problem set from the start.the tube is the best part. thermistor issues,triplers,caps in power supply and crts. my mom bought a new one from sun tv back in 1975 and they serviced it 4-5 times in the first year. i refused to touch it( i couldnt kept that thing going either). that is the one chassis that i steer clear of. awsome picture though.
