I'm seeing a ton of TVs on CL right now.

You can tell lots of people picked up a hi-def TV last Friday (black Friday) and are now selling their low-def 32" Sony Trinitron in their living room that is only 6 years old.

You see lots of people asking $300 for a TV purchased a few years ago for $900.

I bet they don't get anything close to 300 and if you offered 50 bucks and waited, they might take it.

there is a lot of 1990s crt tvs on cl , and the fact is , no one wants them . You practically have to give them away .

Yep, I don't have a teevee upstairs, but was just thinking last night about looking for a freebie to use as a monitor in my living room, and since I have a cable jack there. ...might be good timing for me if I can snag a nice little CRT model.

The market's flooded. Not only on Craigslist, but I was in Fry's Electronics Monday and saw a Sony wide aspect HD CRT 34" set that was $2000, now $399. I also am seeing such sets as the Sony KV-40XBR900; the top of the line 40" tube set that was about $4000 new, now under $300 mint condition on Craigslist. I should pick one up as a collectible....... They'll all get dumped and be rare as hens' teeth as soon as the screen gets dusty, if that's all they're worth!

Saw an ad in the paper last week for a thrift store about an hour from home. 75 TV sets on sale for $10/each, guaranteed to work. I suppose they're all ex-motel sets. I was down that way Sunday but they were closed; never know, might be something older in the pile...

Is the frys by you as horribly stocked for electronic parts as the one here in illinois? Its a convienent store for me but they do not take care of the electonic componets department. Probably because nobody knows what any of the stuff is and it gets ignored. The hooks are mostly empty and there are big catch all boxes at the end of the parts isles with misc transistors resistors etc. in there. Instead of putting it back, the employees just fill the box so they can neaten the walkways. You need to dig around to find what you're looking for. If its out of stock, it will be never be restocked.

I was just there today to pick up a 100uF@50v lytic for that 25EC58 and was stunned to see that had one.

As to the topic here, yes, tons of 90's sets on CL. They are dirt cheap and I keep seeing the same sets relisted for months.

However, I must say some rare sets appear on craigslist every now and then. Just take this rare one of a kind Zenith XL-100's that someone has on craigslist. Priced very well at $50.00. Im sure it will be gone by the end of the month.....

This might be a good time for me to place another "free pickup of non working TV's" ad in the paper; but, I'd get a bunch of "non vintage" stuff that I couldn't unload.

I'd like one of them40" XBRs, too-but didn't they have LOTS of troubles ? I know they weren't offered for sale for very long...

A couple of vacuum tube based color sets should help heat up your office, LOL!

You'd probably do better to get a plasma. Lots better at generating waste heat than a CRT. :D

My 1963 GE B&W 11" set is like a friggin' space heater. I have it on a shelf with its top about 1 1/2 feet from the ceiling, and the ceiling is warm after 30 minutes. :yikes:

You know, I just fired up / cracked open my first plasma about an hour ago. That 42" sucker starts producing heat after just a few minutes. The label says it draws 4 amps of current. You probably really would do better to get a plasma...

The Fry's (I go to the Woodland Hills and the Oxnard locations) around SoCal are geared toward new stuff, and have one or two aisles for components. I don't go there as a rule for parts, but they do seem to have decent order. Very basic stuff like 1/2 watt resistors, small electrolytics, disc caps, and maybe a few common PNP & NPN transistors in blister packs. What I do notice is that most of the things like Weller soldering iron parts, and stuff like that, has been bought & returned in beat-up boxes. I don't think they sell much of that stuff. It sure beats the new Radio Shack though :banana: . At Fry's, you don't fall victim to an ambush by a band of Iranian teenagers telling you that you need a new cellphone TODAY.
