jonman 10-20-2007, 04:41 AM It looks like it has good potential. I have seen a lot worse.
Chad Hauris 10-20-2007, 07:13 AM Looks in great condition to me...I can't see any flaws except on the back. Looks like it even has a new power cord!
saltwater 10-20-2007, 11:33 AM no im posting the picks as a pic to show what i can get if its worth the time and hassle, the old one needs power cord, the antenna his in good condition, its just dirty and has scratch down the side. Prob have to run thru the radio and record player, replace some stuff............
Sandy G 10-20-2007, 11:38 AM Looks like a Nice 'Un to me...The only things I've ever really regretted were the things I DIDN'T do, the girl I DIDN'T ask out, the old radio I DIDN't buy..
KentTeffeteller 12-23-2007, 12:04 PM Hi,
It's a Zenith, upper end model, and a 1942 example made in smaller numbers. It's complete and unmolested. The cabinet is nice looking and complete. It would be a superb restoration candidate. What's holding you up? You need that Zenith.
similost 12-23-2007, 12:23 PM I realized that isn't the picture of the exact one you are after, but I I would grab it in a heart beat. You seldom find the wave magnets in good condition. I've got two earlier Zenith consoles, and if that was near me, I'd have three...
saltwater 12-23-2007, 01:13 PM ok well i grabbed it, just hold your pants on! im on the magnavox console first sense its solid state and this one is tubed, im little clueless about resto, but will be done!
similost 12-23-2007, 01:19 PM For the wood, check out Howards Restore-a-finish, and Howard's Wax-n-feed. It made my crappy and worn looking cabs look damn near brand new.. well.. other than a few od the scratches.. .but a wax pencil helped with some of those..
As far as the rest, you'll need to test the tubes, watch out for any of the rubber coated wire, and replace the caps. The wires usually sluff off the insulator if you try and move them.
I need to buy caps, and I'm going to order cloth coated wire for the resto.. and I also got a tube tester.
I need to get started on mine, but got a few other projects to get done first.
I'll have to learn how to dial in the radio though after I get the rest replaced.
Hope you enjoy yours as much as I have mine even just looking at them.
Pictures?
saltwater 12-23-2007, 09:52 PM yeah i can get some, maybe tommorow, im gonna be near it in the morning, i was wondering bout wood, and will check into howards.
as far as tube tester i have no way to test em.
so do you have a close model to that one?
