Hoo wee, he claims this will be the last time he'll be listing this. Should I hold my breath?

http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=2214051091&category=3638

He's actually fired it up this time and posted a photo of the screen. The color looks pretty good, but what's up with the upper and lower edges of the raster? Yuck. He admitted that he had made some adjustments, looks to me that they were more seat of the pants in nature.

Looks like this offer won't last long. Better buy it up now!

I would if he only had TWO of them :headscrat

Also, his starting price is not high enough. :wtf:

Not high enough to cover all his repeated auction listing fees! :nutz:

What a maroon. He thinks that dropping the opening price by $100 and plugging it in will open the floodgates of bidders. Not a chance. Showing that it works is most helpful, but the price is STILL was too high. There's a saying in these parts, stupid people die stupid.

"Like New"??? Yeah...with the cabinet damage and that wack picture...*new* if it had fallen off the delivery truck! :puke:
I wish the guy luck...but I dunno...:dunno:

The seller reminds me of a nutty buddy of mine. His descriptions start out at one end of the scale and then end up at the complete opposite.

Example regarding a used car:

You should see this thing, it looks just like it came off the showroom floor. The paint is perfect, well, there are some scratches and some rust is bubbling thru, oh yeah, and a garbage truck sideswiped both sides.............

But the interior! Smells like new, well, there is some musty odor from where water has been leaking and the seats are torn up with blood stains, but the headliner, um, that's missing.

But you oughta hear the engine run! Smooth as a kitten, although it does smoke more than a tugboat towing the Queen Mary and it shook my molars loose at idle

Ahhhhh, fegit it, it's a POS!

I wouldn't bid on that set even if I could afford it and had the room for it. The cabinet damage is one reason (whomever said here that this set was not in "pristine" condition was right on the mark); I wouldn't have a set with an obvious front crack like that (which stands out like a sore thumb) in my living room. The other is the picture quality. As one person pointed out here, the picture looks good as far as color, etc. is concerned, but it does not fill the screen (one can see the vertical-interval test signals, which of course are supposed to be hidden behind the CRT mask, at the top of the raster, not to mention the bottom shrinkage). The person who said it looked as if the size and linearity controls had been adjusted "by the seat of the pants" is probably correct as well. It is all but impossible to adjust these controls accurately without a test pattern, which one can only get from a generator such as a B&K Analyst (TV stations stopped broadcasting round test patterns years ago).

I also wish the seller luck in unloading this. This TV has been on ebay so long, with no takers, that the person should take the hint that no one is going to want to bid on it unless, and only unless, the opening bid is lowered to some realistic value (I agree that the opening bid is far too high). By the time he/she finally sells the thing (if ever), the person could well go broke from the e-bay fees alone. What is he/she going to do--keep the set on ebay until it sells, even if that takes months or (heaven forbid) years? :dunno:

He ain't selling that set, he's holding it for ransom!

If I come off sounding too harsh in my criticism against this IDIOT seller there's a very good reason. He's been told very nicely by others on this board that he's asking too much etc. But he persists in trying to find a sucker.

I don't care how much he has invested in it, doesn't change the fair market value one whit. That's HIS problem, and one he can't remedy by continually making the mistake of trying to get an unrealistic price.

Sure, there's a remote chance that he MAY find a bigger sucker than him, but I'll probably win the lottery before that happens. And consider this, I'm a white male that was born in this country, so you know the odds of my ever winning the lotto are zilch! :uzi:

This horse has been beaten so many times that it's in shreds. Start the auction at ONE PENNY, put a reserve on it for A MILLION DOLLARS. This will generate TONS OF BIDS. Obviously the reserve will never be met, but the seller still has the option of offering it to the highest bidder if the price is acceptable to him. Do I have to wipe this guy's ass for him too?

I somehow think this will NOT be the last time this "dog" is listed. I'm the one who originally said this set is far from "pristine". To give the guy credit, I'm sure the cabinet damage doesn't look as bad in person, but if one is going to pay that price it should have NONE. Also, altho I'm not sure what chassis is in this set, I'm sure the vertical could be adjusted or maybe a new module could be put in. I just get po'd at sellers like these because I collect alot of different things and hit up estate sales and antique malls, and have noticed as of late, prices are marked up "thru the roof". I don't expect anything for free, but do these sellers think we're stupid? I had a little run in at an antique mall last week due to the marked up prices. LOL....... Anyway, it would be nice to see this go to a collector who would appreciate it, but ANY console is hard to "move", as there is just no room for people to have them. I noticed that the seller of the late 70's RCA 12" B&W has that listed AGAIN at a price of $60.00! Jeeezzzzzzzzzzzz :(

I have seen this a lot at antique malls and shops, exorbitant prices on large old pieces of electronic equipment. I think there are several different factors at play here.

At the malls, where individual dealers rent a booth, some of these people are just doing this as a extra source of income and are likely not very experienced and judicious on pricing, and either naively think that the item is worth a lot of money or they KNOW it isn't worth a lot and think a "sucker" will buy it. These malls are a lot harder to "dicker" with as the store keeper doesn't have any investment in the merchandise; they are not losing money if they can't sell it, so they have no real motivation to lower the price, and most times are not allowed to with out calling the owner of the booth, etc.

Another thing I have read is that most of the antique trade is to other dealers who take it and re-sell it at other antique malls or shops. Something like 75% or all antique sales are for resale if I remember correctly. The shops don't want to give a "low" price to someone who might re-sell the item.

The better places to find fair prices on TV's, console radios and such is an antique shop where the owner has actually purchased the inventory. After it sits around for a while and does not sell the shop will usually give you a deal on it. I have got some things free or at reasonable prices that had been in antique shops for YEARS at high prices, more than 3 years in some cases. I got a non-working GE console stereo priced at $395 that sat around an antique shop for years for free! They gave it to me! Obviously they were trying to sucker someone into buying it and after they found no suckers they gave it to me.

I hate thift stores that over charge on electronics. There's one near me that has all kinds of stuff priced so high that no one ever buys them. You'd think they would figure it out after the stuff sat there for over a year. Some examples are lots of 80's 19" non-remote TVs with weak CRTs and other problems for $25-$35, 70's mid-fi stereo receivers for around $100, P-100 computers for over $100, various 70's and 80's bookshelf speakers for $75+... They've got an old external 1X CD-ROM drive that started at about $25 and is now around $8 which is still too high. And just try to make them an offer on anything!

I have had a few nice things from there, but mostly from the free pile. They charge an arm and a leg for the junk and give away the good stuff!

I e-mailed him, offering $150, and my own transportation. I told him i own one 2000, and would like to have another. I cannot pay that much, and the set needs some vertical repair, and is not in perfect condition. I hope he will respond positively, and not toss it in the trash, out of spite.

But, after seeing the way he has listed the last three times, He probably will...

People like this bother me... If they can't get their high price on something, then they will make sure no one can have it.

After the way he's been trashed on this thread I wouldn't doubt that he would toss it out of spite.

If you recall Terry said this was a friend of his so no doubt he's seen the comments made.

Hopefully he will be responsive to a reasonable offer and won't toss it.

The odds are that he'll end up giving it to Terry or someone else local before he actually tosses it.

He's convinced himself that it's worth *something* due to it's original owner, so it's highly unlikey once cooler heads prevail that he's actually going to trash it.

Unless after all he's as unreasonable as he appears in the handling of his auction!

I will say this though, without meaning to cast stones, when I've been offered an amount of money so far less from what I was asking for a given item, I have thrown it away (or at the very least refused to ever communicate with that person other than to rip them a secondary rectal orifice) :D

The problem began when he paid too much or somehow got brainwashed into thinking this thing is worth a fortune....it now has snowballed because of this and his refusal to listen to others who actually know better, but in his mind are just BSing him because they want to "steal" his zillion dollar TV for next to nothing.

GET A CLUE MAGOO!

God - what a muppet...

Oh well - landfill then, I guess. What a waste...

He's just like that guy on Ebay UK who's listed the same Nakamich CR1E with a BIN of at least TRIPLE what it's worth (£199!!!!) - and it's been on there since at least as early as June 2002!!!

Just like this kind of thing - "Oh I paid £6000 for this IBM XT in 1986 - you should pay me £4000 for it now 'cos I paid that much for it" etc etc.... Twonks in the extreme...

dang...... what a jack-ass! I would rather have a set with some "hours" on it with NO dings on the cabinet. You would have thought he'd listen to us. The dude needs to get a clue, that NO-ONE wants a console. Most are worthless and we probably pay too much for some of the sets we like and have purchased. I will agree that this set is rare, but since it is solid state I'm sure there are more of these floating around then the CT100's. I would agree this set should have a "nice" home, but not for that price. It's still an early 70's RCA product, and altho I'll probably tick some of you off..... early solid state RCA products were not the most reliable. And while we're talking about rare sets.... that Sony 30" console from the early 80's is probably just as rare, and would be more reliable anyway. This seller could find a home for this set by shoving it up his a**! LOL :)

If you were to search this country & find every person desiring to own one of these sets you could probably fit them all in my 67 Chevy. Now, how many would live in this guy's neighborhood, or be willing to drive to get it? If you offered to give it to me, bring it to me, carry it inside for me...I'd probably take it but don't think I'd keep it. Too many older sets deserve that floorspace. I do appreciate this set as a milestone, and I don't think the condition is all that bad. A wonder that it works at all-you could put a new tv in an hermetically sealed mayonaisse jar on Funk & Wagnall's porch for 30 years & it probably wouldn't work thanks to bad caps. What is bothersome to me: its not our fault the set isn't worth more. There aren't enough collectors of this stuff to set much of a real value-wouldn't have surprised me to see it bid up to $600 or more, & if 2 people really wanted it thats what would happen.

look what he changed his description too!
hint if you want to chase off potential buyers act like him!

(cut from auction)
**** Boy O Boy, did my threat to throw it in the dumpster generate a lot of e-mail. Most of it was kind of nasty. So anyway I have to end the fun now because the Ebay 12 hour limit is coming up in a couple of hours & after that I can't change anything. **** What is the set worth??? I had advice from some of you that ran from $5.00 to $100.00, and even one that said $150.00. One of you said that you bought a set that was just as good for $100.00 on Ebay a while back. **** Let's see now. I don't know much about collecting and values of these things but I wonder if that "comparable set" had **** Less than 1,000 total hours on it? **** Did it have the owners nameplate postcard that would have been mailed in if it had been retailed? **** Did it have sales literature describing the set in detail? **** Did it have those little folder dingies that hang on the knob of a set in the showroom? **** Did it have a complete and pristene technical manual with no figerprints or smudges on it? **** Did it have the owners manual and was it in pristene condition? **** Did it have all of the aforementioned material in the original vinyl envelope attached to the back of the set **** Did it have the TCA extender printed circuit service card with it? **** Did it have the original unused remote control in the original container attached to the back of the set? **** Were all of the controls, knobs and switch levers like new because they had very little use? **** Was the power cord still coiled up from the factory? **** When you took the back off of the set was there very little dirt and dust and absolutely no trace of cigarette smoke? **** Could you tell by looking at the inside of the set that it was exactly as it was when shipped from the factory? **** Was it always stored in a protected climate controlled area? **** There's other things, but I think you get my point! **** This is probably the only one of the 2000 made that is this complete! **** Now not knowing much about it, but not being completely stupid, I would say that this is probably a pretty unique set in rather unique condition with rather unique accessories. It's probably worth a little more than that set that was used God knows where, with how many hours on it, stored under the garbage cans in the garage before being listed on Ebay. I'm not going to give it away. I have more in it than I'm asking for. I'm also not stupid enough to throw a treasure like this in any dumpster, but I will say that it will never again be listed on Ebay. Frankly, you "Collectors" don't deserve it.

Note the very last line:

"I'm not going to give it away. I have more in it than I'm asking for. I'm also not stupid enough to throw a treasure like this in any dumpster, but I will say that it will never again be listed on Ebay. Frankly, you "Collectors" don't deserve it."

Did I nail that or what? I knew there was no way this ego centric guy would throw it away, and as I also figgured, he paid far too much in the first place.

Take your marbles and go home jerky, no one wants to play with you.
