Anyone know of a sub for a 25ap22 picture tube . I have several new crts in my attic which are stamped "25V " . they look identical , however in my cross reference book it does not show these two tubes interchanging . Anyone know if these two tubes are interchangable . Just was curious if anyone knew these numbers . I have to change a picture tube in my magnavox and being i am not a expert on tvs , i just wanted some advise and was trying to see if i could use something i had before going out and buying a CRT .

You will find that the 25V tubes have sharper screen corners and are slightly larger than the 25A. It will not fit the mask and probably not fit the mounting hardware. Some 23V numbers will substitute for a 25A.

23V(anything) will sub for a 25AP22, as long as it's a delta gun, and as long as it doesn't have some kind of weird mounting ears permanently attached. Same goes for 25(no"V")+anything.

I think the only real difference among all the 23V/25 delta gun types are cosmetic or enhanced performance items, such as etched glass faceplate vs. clear, or black matrix vs. not. I haven't had any trouble substituting one for another. The 23V types (23VALP22, etc) are later models and should offer better performance all the way around than the 25AP22, 25XP22, etc. The 23V types may also be certified to emit less than a certain amount of X-radiation but I am not certain of this.
The only problem I can see in subsituting delta gun tubes comes with some 25V types...I know the later 70's RCA XL-100 chassis used 31 kv on the CRT anode and some earlier 25V types are not rated for this higher voltage.

I sold many Channel Master 23VAL/VATP22 tubes as a direct replacement for 25_P22 CRTs. I think the original tubes were used by Magnavox, but later adopted by the aftermarket for replacements for the old 25A/X/AXP22 tubes. Empire had a 23V "Universal" tube with about 60 tubes listed it replaced. I can dig around and see if my Dad still has any literature on this.
