Hi everybody,

I was lookin' around my neighbourhood outdoor recycler today and I was peeking at the pile of old TV's they had in the front... (it was raining a bit too...) and as I approached, what do I see on top of another TV in a weird angle??? an old Sony TV-500U like the one I had over 30 yrs ago...(I think...) it has a few marks on it but considering where it was I think it's not too bad and I can probably fix a few anyway... so I left the TV in my car while I was at work and when I came home I let it dry several hours more... AND.... finally I had the guts to power it up and it works.... WOW.... :tresbon::banana::yes::thmbsp: except for an aging CRT (the pic is still quite good...) and a few noisy controls.... I guess I made a good deal at $5... now if I could only find a KV-5000 like the one I bought after that TV-500U!!!...

Thank you all for reading my post.

Happy listening/watching...:music:

I just got an earlier version of that set, a TV5-307u. The set is different, with all controls being on the front panel, and the metal cabinet being more like the ones on the earlier 60's sony portables. I would reccomend replacing all the electrolytic caps on the plugin modules. Thats all it took for mine to come beck to life. Best part is, they are all common value low voltage caps, available at any Radio Shack.

Yeah, you don't see those as frequently as you do the earlier ones...Good score !
