Saw it, the other parts of the movie just ruin it for me. The crate is good but I hate wadding through all the muck. Especially the last one, it totally blows.

Silver Bullet is horror show for the folks who wear pants labeled "scaredy".

Keep 'em coming, but bring the real meat to the table.

Sadly, besides cool factor for Christine, only a fe Steven King movies made me tense- Cujo, and The Shining.

Loved Pet Cemetary, only becausethe Ramones played on the soundtrack in contributions, and Fred Guinn, the original Herman Munster, rocked it. I liked cujo, Christine, and loved The Shining (supposedly King Hated it, though master of film Kubrick directed it).

The James Caan/ Cathy Bates "Misery" rocked, maybe the same level as "The Shining". But shows with so much potential, like "The Langoliers", or "IT", which should have been "fill your pants with s#*T" scary, were far from it.

The movie The Shinning is quite a bit different than the book and King did not like the changes. I liked both, the book a little more, excellent read.

The parts that I think are good are when they are looking for the werewolf in the fog and it starts killing them...as well when the sister goes to the garage
and finds the baseball bat and at the end when they are arguing that there are no werewolves and it smashes through the window ..... I think that it
was really well put together but we all have different tastes......

Trust me, I hate wheelchair flicks. I have a strong dislike and adversion to them- very unpleasant to me. You may be able to fgure out why.

The original Psycho. Which I saw at age 8 when it first came out. (Really was not a movie for kids, but there were no ratings in those days.) I was scared out of my wits, and could barely look at the screen. So for me, that will always be #1.

Anybody else ever see "Sisters" a '73 flick w/Margot Kidder & Charles Durning ? Not too scary per se, just very suspenseful & the score...The Score made it 2X as scary as it would have been otherwise.

Audition (Japanese film) Has the honor(?) of having more people walk out of the theater than any other film in history. This one goes waaay too far.

As a horror movie aficionado, I like these films because there are NO spring loaded cats. They twist the genre, and earn their scares.

Evil Dead - flying eyeballs
Night of the Living Dead (original) - "Johnny's got the keys"
Demon Seed - creepy and campy
Village of the Damned - George Sanders classes up this low-budget thriller
Halloween (original) - Donald Pleasance is also scary
Dracula (original) - ghoulish and the original "goth"
Body Snatchers (70s version) - classic paranoia and acid-soaked sound
Hellraiser - Pinhead gives me the willies
Rosemary's Baby - again, Satan is scary and John Cassavette's willingness to trade his child to Satan for wordly gain is chilling

Session 9- I know the director. Good flick. Saw it at it's Boston premiere, only to have a city brown-out end the flick 2/3rds through.

Audition- yeah- not an easy one to watch.

I preferred Suicide Club and Battle Royale.

Geezzzz.. I can't believe not one person has mentioned my one and only most favorite classic horror flick.... PHANTASM...

and if that don't scare her.. take to her to see the one with Jane Fonda in it.. :D

Hmmmm... I grew up watching "scarlet theatre" type flicks so there is a heavy influence.

The original "Mummy", the scene where the mummy gets up and leave near the beginning of the movie is possibly the scariest of the 1930's. Even if the acting is more than a bit over the top.

Excellent suggestions, Jack. I liked both Japanese and American versions of The Grudge and of The Ring. A Tale of Two Sisters is on my Netflix que. The Thing is another great classic.

All great but my favorite has to be "The Thing" (John Carpenter), saw it in the theatre and was on the edge of my seat the entire movie and why hasn't anyone mentioned "Jaws" probably one of the all-time best scary movies. I'm also partial to all the zombie movies.....

I was going to say Eraserhead, but the pace of that movie is so incredibly slow, by the time they show the hideous little baby thing, you don't really care anymore.

I love David Lynch otherwise. When things were finally coming together on Twin Peaks, I thought that was some scary stuff. But when Lynch summed it all up in Fire Walk With Me, it was spooky and weird but it didn't scare me nearly as much.

Unfortunately and despite the great promise of the above, I just didn't feel it in in 1982 when I saw it. Neither did my GF at the time who stayed with me in spite of my suggestion to go see it at all. Eventually she became my wife and "Eraserhead" still comes up once in awhile. I just asked her what she thought of it knowing what her answer would be (as I've heard it many times over the years)......"I thought it was a jumble of images that might eventually get better and make some sense. I thought that right up until it was over." I know it is on most everyone's must see cult film list but I'll take "Harold & Maude" any day. (Which should have made my list initially!) A better effort from Lynch would be "Blue Velvet" which certainly makes you uneasy enough to work at an adult Halloween party. "He put his disease in me................"

"The Last House on the Left", may be Wes Cravens first film and definitely the most disturbing.

"Cat People" Very noir, to boot.

Silent movies are scary. You are forced to stare at the screen since there is only background music and the creeks in the home. If you are an HP Lovecraft fan then The Call of Cthulhu would keep you awake. It’s a modern B/W film made to look like a noir film of the 1920s. It’s sure to get the hairs on your back standing.

Most of my favorites are already here, but one feature needs to be mentioned:

Men Behind the Sun.

The film is horrifying both because of its content (Japanese human experiments in WW2) and because, like Texas Chainsaw Massacre, it is fairly primitively shot, which adds immensely to the creepiness.
It does contain animal violence additionally.

Not an easy viewing, by a long shot.

A few not mentioned but worth digging for;

Thriller---a cruel picture. This is Tarantino's favorite revenge film & some of Kill Bill is based on it.

House at the edge of the park. Rape movie and mindgames.

Hitchhike. Like above, another Daivid Hess mindgames movie.

Death Weekend. Another toughie to find.

I can't remember if it's been mentioned or not, but I forgot to suggest Near Dark. A vampire film set in a contemporary setting, which brilliantly NEVER uses the word vampire.

I think it's the best modern-day (if you count 1987 as modern) vampire film. The soundtrack still works (Tangerine Dream) and with the exception that some very well known actors look 20 years younger, it doesn't feel dated. Good gore, black humor, and a couple dozen great quotables. My Favorite:

Let me just say this: Halloween is by far my favorite holiday. All the stories, movies, and general eeriness is amazing to me. The one time a year when this culture acknowledges 'the dark side' . :smoke::yikes:

I am a huge horror-movie guy. My scariest pick would have to be The Silence of the Lambs. Maybe not, but there are so many to choose from. All the Friday the 13th movies were kinda cool, up until the 90s. lol.

For me , it was The Birds. Nothing since has come close.
