Hi guys found this today and still works, I had to work the tuner, back and forth to get some channels to come in. I haven't found a model number yet. The model sticker fell off years ago. Anybody recognize it before I open it up? it looks like a tube model with a few transistors. Logan

I think that was one of the last Zenith tube sets from around '74-'75. Very nice find!

WOW! I used to have that exact same TV years ago! I remember buying it at the Gingham Tree resale shop in Downers Grove back around 1995 for $20 which was pretty expensive for a TV like this back then. In fact, I sold mine on ebay back in '98 when I first became a member. I became board of it and sold it. Ive regretted that decision ever since. I remember that detented UHF tuner very well, yet it was a tube type set. That set must be 1975 model and is the VERY last tube type color set zenith made. I cant remember what chassis is in there, but Im thinking its going to be a 14DC15 since it doesnt have AFC. Zenith kept the 14DC15 chassis going for a while even though its a 1973 chassis design. I could never find a picture of that TV in any of the brochures and was hoping someone on the forum would find one someday and could post pictures of! Please post photos of the chassis and a chassis number when you open it up. When you open it up, try to find some year date codes on the original tubes and also take a look at the date on the delay line. That should help determine manufacture time. Sometimes zenith stamped a date on the bottom of the rear cover inside. Chassis number should be on the HV cage. Im really curious about this set. I dont remember much of mine at all other than that it looked exactly like this one.

Thanks! It might be a while before i get this to the bench. I gotta make some room on it first. I peeked inside through back grill with a flashlight, and it has a lot of dust inside. It must have come from a nice little old lady's house, because as it warmed up, it smelled of lilacs. What do you recommend for cleaning the chassis? A toothbrush and vacuum cleaner? And are there any recommendations for how to clean tubes that won't remove the silk screening?

You know you have a nice set when you get the "clean dust" smell as it warms up. Clean dust meaning that its a light grey dust that will simply blow off clean with no residue. Yes, a vacuum and small paintbrush work best. I get the most of it out with the vacuum then hook up the hose to the exaust end of the vacuum and blow out the rest. I have an old 1963 electrolux model G with the reversable hook up so I can use the vacuum both ways which makes it very handy.
I no longer use compressed air as you will blow labels off the chassis and or destroy them if they are dry and brittle.
Look forward to hearing the progress of this TV.

Hey Doug, got into the set this morning. yes it is a 14DC15 chassis. Looked all over for a date codes couldn't find any on the chassis but i found a 14 Dec 73 on the delay line and a 7401 on a large electrolytic cap. here are a few pics of the guts! Logan
