grill cloth in decent shape, could make a nice restoration with some minnor refinishing.

If the CRT is good its definitely worth 50 bucks.

Thanks for the tip. Another nice roundie saved from the dumpster and in the hands of an AKer.

I bought it this morning for a buddy of mine who lives in Oceanside. He just picked it up moments ago and reports that he's quite pleased with it. We're going to try to restore it, my advice offered remotely, and hopefully I'll put up a shot of it working again.

Wow! Thats the same set that I restored several months back. I love mine and I dont think it was very hard to recap. I always tell anyone who gets one of these late 40's RCA's to just go ahead and replace all 4 (I think) power supply filters before ANYTHING else is done. As any set of that vintage is getting pretty darn old now this may apply to any set from the time period. I say it in relation to the old RCA's in particular because I have dealt with and own 2, a TC-127 (pictured-jpdylon) and an 8T-243. Both of them had major power supply trouble initially. I had to replace the power transformer in the restored 127, that propelled me to go ahead and do the rest. BEWARE!! The negative side of the filters in this set does NOT ground to the chassis.

This set looks great in a living room. Not TOO big like a lot of sets, just right. I'm real happy and I hope this new owner enjoys his new addition. I will soon be going inside mine again as it has low volume. I have to turn it all the way up to hear it plainly in the room. I knew this when I put it together but there was a weak Audio Output tube and I felt that replacement would be a fix. I was excited as this was my first total recap and it worked. I just wanted to see it complete and in the living room. I did not have the tube at the time.

Its great having a set THAT old that I can watch as long as I want without worry of a cap shorting or something. I have several other working sets but they are working originals and I remain reluctant to recap. I know its stupid but to me it is almost unreal to have 50 year old sets that STILL work with only routine repairs through the years if ANY. So I keep them and use them only for maybe a half hour at a time, and I try to stay close by in case anything goes to smoke. I will say that all but ONE of my working originals have leaky caps in the vertical section as I get shrinkage on the bottom after about 15 minutes. That seems to be a common problem in old sets. Actually the vertical section in general seems to have more problems than other sections IMHO.
