I loved Sports Night, would love to see another show by the same writer(s) directed as well as that director and performed as well as that ensemble.

I would love to see an update on the campy Max Headroom. They could totally CGI him in 3-D in a virtual environment, and make his quirks more subtle.

Forget the charges of FOX having one political bias over another, not seeing Firefly through is proof of their incompetence in programming. I could not agree more on seeing this one return, cast intact. Including the dead ones!

Onto other shows -

The first one is not an exact remake but a hybrid that combines elements of "Stingray", "The Equalizer", & "The Saint". Make the protagonist a dotcom multimillionaire who has the funds to back his plays and is now looking for meaning in his life after selling out. He could have just fallen into this role by deciding to travel the US/Canada/Mexico and somewhere in the hinterlands he stumbles across someone needing help outside the system. This leads to his epiphany and as he has numerous contacts from his former life, he knows who can assist him. Anyways, I'd like to see a show along those lines. I'd put Duchovny in this role.

Another, Night Gallery. Let it be a clearinghouse for new & old directing and writing talent about the ironic, bizarre, or supernatural bends.

Well, sure Bill's probably too old now, but as a parent now I can't say enough about what this show did. Loving parents teaching and caring about their children, and dealing with real problems all while being hugely entertaining at the same time.

Commander in chief...with Jenna Davis... that show lost its viewers because of the screw up of the network... there was a big hoopla about it ...the ratings were up there where they should have been then somebody either got fired ...quit or something in the production area...then there were re-runs for a long time ...and interest was lost ...when they brought it back for the last few episodes ...the interest was lost because of the newer shows comming out and after that it didnt have a chance ...

Just when it was getting good too... ...bummer... but the people who wrote in the the network wanted this ...then wanted that ...should'ave just let the writers go ...afterall it was just fiction...if it were real life ...well...then who would watch... get the same thing on the evening news ...

They can bring it back anytime in my book...

No, really isn't. its from '68, its very intellectual anarchic philosophical humour, a little aimed on EG an Brit/Fra relations and anything. It is very simple drawn, but has a very complete backround, the special language and calculation, philosophical aspects in the existance of those gibis and shadoks, its very complex. it was broadcasted only ONCE 1n 1968-70, never again... thats why it makes some people remembering it really starve (i can't how many times i saw Al Bundy on 20 different channels).
I found that it was synchronized ONLY in german additional to the original french Cartoon, nobody seemed to have been interested in this.
If anyone is good in french (canadians?) they should really check the french episodes that are found in the net.

I looked for that yesterday & came up short.

I think it was just a minimalist style that many artists of that era and earlier were comfortable with.

Absolutely! It was a great show. Very futuristic - Instead of "Open Channel D" we now have the chirp-chirp-chirp from Nextel. Same thing, only different.:scratch2: It was one of the first TV serial Spy-Vs-Spy type shows that ever went anywhere. And now for the bonus round, who played the director of U.N.C.L.E. on the show?

In 1986, one of the local Boston TV stations played every episode of U.N.C.L.E over the summer during the week at 11:00PM. My wife & I started watching from the very beginning when they were B&W all the way through color and what we were amazed by was how much adult content was slipped past the standards boards. Frankly, what we take for granted now was really pushing the envelope and in many cases popping it altogether on U.N.C.L.E. I can recall over and over after Solo (it was mostly Solo) would deliver a one liner about whichever female was closest and we'd look at each other and say "I can't believe they got that through!" or "Did he just say what I thought he said?". You could not recreate that today and is really one of the things that made the show fun to watch, the running un-PC commentary. Goes hand in hand with Playboy, the batchelor pad, & Hai Karate of the day.

I am not sure I would want to see this one brought back unless it could come anywhere close to what the original was. But they couldn't do that, they would have to make it a reflection of today which to me, wouldn't be all that interesting. The original was near perfect and would be really tough to improved upon. I'd be afraid of it getting the recent Kolchak treatment.

The one that STILL brings chills is that one that had the machine where anything you thought of, it would make it...And, of course, You-Know-Who tools it up & had to face that alien who looked like a 3-week dead guy covered w/cheese...

I loved Lost in Space for the first season, but like Voyage to the bottom of the sea, it lost that spooky feel when it went color.

I third Firefly. Great show that I only saw as dvd with my 16 year old. Got him hooked and saw all the episodes and Serenity in the HT setup. We bonded on that show. Man from Uncle was campy but fun. i liked the McGyver series.

I was too young to see it when it was on network but saw most of the episodes in syndication many years later. Unfortunately I have not seen it since. What I do recall though is that it seemed far more sophisticated in writing and character development than other shows of the era. It was not at all predictable and very gloomy. I'd like to see it again as I wonder how much of the show could be considered allegory towards the Cold War?

I remember that the proof of "The Invaders" was always JUST out of reach...Like in "The X-Files"...There was one character actor, Alfred Ryder, they used as one of the "big-shot, bossmen" Invaders..He always played a mean, creepy bastard type...

The Twilight Zone

Now you are talking! The Twilight Zone was the best! I can't tell you how many of those shows scarred the crap out of me when I was a kid. Some still do! I still get chills when I hear the Conductor calling out the name of the non-existing town of "Willoby" (or 'Will-O-Be', or however you spell it) and the Doppler effect sound of the bells at the crossing. I still watch episodes when I catch them on late night TV.

And I agree Sandy G, F Troop and The FBI were great shows too. As long as you are going there, how about "Route 66"? And what about those great variety shows like Jackie Gleason, Ed Sullivan, Dean Martin, and, of course, Rowan and Martins Laugh In.

Do you think that our kids and grand kids will be having discussions like this about today's television shows 30 years from now? Not likely.

An' "Alfred Hitchcock Presents" the original early '60s show was edge-of-your-seat suspenseful. Even the '80s version was pretty good, probably the best of all the "re-done" shows...

Just two: Seinfeld and Northern Exposure.

Homicide: Life on the Street. Terrific ensemble cast (though with some character changes), great acting all around, and absorbing stories. May have been the best cop drama ever.

Isn't "The Simple Life" a remake of Petticoat Junction? Sorta kinda? Except without the funny?

Anyone remember "The Powers That Be"? A Norman Lear production from about 10 years ago that only ran one season. John Forsythe was Senator Powers, Holland Taylor (IIRC) his wife, David Hyde Pierce his dippy U.S. Rep son-in-law, damnned if I can remember the name of the redhead who played the Senator's daughter, Peter MacNicol was his chief of staff or something, and this hot blonde was his press secretary or an aide or eye candy or something. Great writing, funnier than hell...another eternal question; why only one season? I managed to catch a half dozen episodes on tape...still pull it out from time to time.

The Adventures of Brisco County Jr., I just rented this on DVD, and I was pleasantly surprised. I can't think of another show made anytime after the 60s that I've enjoyed this much, certainly nothing from the 90s when this was made. I can't believe this only went for one year. Well, I've only seen the first 7 episodes, and still have a quite few to go.

The Twilight Zone, while I think it was one of the greatest shows of all time, I think they should stop remaking it. All of Twilight Zone type shows that they remade just lacked whatever it was, that cool spookyness, that made the original so good. The only show that I think compares is the original Outer Limits, which I think ran concurrently with the Twilight Zone. And some of those "Alfred Hitchcock Hour" shows were good too, but I think that may have been even earlier than the Twilight Zone. The Night Gallery was ok too, but those 2 Twilight Zone remakes and that Outer Limits remake they did I just didn't think were that great.

The latter-day "Twilight Zone" & "Outer Limits" suffered from the incessant, politically-correct need of dramatic TV nowadays to ALWAYS "Teach Its Audience A Lesson"- and to "Go Against Steretypes". I think if I see one more gruff-but-lovable black guy as a Police Commissioner, or a Woman commanding a platoon, starship, naval vessel, researcher, whatever, I'll throw up....

Hawaii Five-O! I just finished watching the first season on DVD and got hooked on it all over again...now I have to wait until fall for season two to come out...rats! Also...Rat Patrol, Combat, Mission Impossible, Wild Wild West, and Medical Center!

Hill Street Blues and Saint Elsewheres. Two great ground breaking shows. Only Studio 60 comes close today.

Maverick. what a fun western. The Bob Newhart show (whatever edition they had), a truly funny comedy sitcom. Either him as a Psychologist or an Inkeeper, they were all great shows. The Odd Couple, wow did I enjoy that show (Randall and Klugman). Seinfield, the best comedy show ever made. Yancy Derringer (Jock Mahoney and X Brands) was really cool.

I gave F Troop a thought, Sandy, but I don't think it would fly nowdays. But I did enjoy it.

How about The Honeymooners? I think that style of comedy would endure. I'd also enjoy some kind of Variety show, like Ed Sullivan.

Red Drawf, the local PBS station used to have marathon Red Drawf showings during their pledge.
Nothern Exposure, another one I found in reruns late one night. Loved the quirkyness.
Cupid, a nother liate night discovery and had a Chrissie Hynde title song and was a chick flick kinda show.
