Any flicks that might need a remake?

I nominate three:

1. St Elmo's Fire: Idiotic, over the top piece of crap that just happened to be a good idea for a movie. Tone down the characters and talent and try again.

2. Bonfire of the Vanities: Excellent book that bombed on film as it was turned into a spoof. Problematic, though, as a lot of the book takes place in the main characters' thoughts.

3. Bullitt: Blasphemous to even consider remaking this classic, but I know that a Hollywood bereft of originality will get to it one of these days so they may as well start thinking about how possibly to do it right. They'll probably cast Colin Finnerty as Frank Bullitt. The Mustang will now be Jag. Cannot say I would be happy.

Given the times, "Silent Running" would be a good choice. No need to spend a lot of $$$ on the cast, either.

How many remakes have been anywhere near comparable to the originals, especially these days??? And I'm not talking English/US remakes of foreign films like The Departed/Infernal Affairs or Magnificent 7/Seven Samurai. I'm thinking more like "The Nutty Professor", "The Shaggy Dog", "Guess Who's coming to Dinner", "The In-Laws"; you catch my drift. OK, I think Peter Jackson's "King Kong" was pretty decent, but the original still has something special to it. And "The Manchurian Candidate" was popcorn entertaining, but the original was one of a kind. :yes:

I don't usually watch remakes because the originals usually were so good or special I don't understand any reason besides the only reason (read $$$$) that anyone would remake them; re "The Nutty Professor".

And don't get me started on the TV show movies.(McHale's Navy, Beverly Hillbillies, )........:puke:

"Plan 9 from Outer Space"

"The Attack of the 50 Foot Woman"

"The Blob"

Some of the Charley Chan movies might work.

...although the original IS one of my favorites...pretty tough to do better than Bruce Dern...and those cute little robots.

I would agree. However, my question is more geared towards bad movies that offer potential in the form of a remake.

Of course, one must remember that classics such as The Wizard of Oz and The 10 Commandments were themselves remakes.

I would say the remake of King Kong was good because they blended change with some exact reproductions of the original and all in all, it payed homage to the original and did not really attempt to outdo it.

That horrible turkey "Patton" should be remade; This time w/Harvey Fierstein as the general..."Monty Python & The Holy Grail" could be re-made w/Adam Sandler in John Cleese's roles...

...And in reflection, not a very good one, either...But can't you just see Harvey hiding under a desk like he did in "Independence Day" -right before the big scene when they attack Rommel's Afrika Korps ?

...Or standing on top of the hill, watching the battle, yelling, "Rommel, you P*ssy Biach, I read your BOOK!!!"....

I was thinking of being tounge in cheek like a few above and saying something like "Star Wars" but Lucas did just that, didn't he.

"Planet of the Apes" should never have been remade. "The Blob" has already been remade. "The Creature from the Black Lagoon" is a natural fit for an update.

Darryl Hannah is pretty, but I wonder if they have to hire someone to lead her around on the set...She looks like if you went, "Hey ! Darryl, hon, how ya doin' ?!?" she'd be at a loss for words...

These two anti-war films are classics, and probably unable to be improved upon. But with some updating to reflect modern events, new versions of MASH and Kubrick's great Paths of Glory could make powerful statements about war.

And how about A Clockwork Orange?
