Hi gang!

I remember a sci-fi movie I watched when I was a youngster. It was either a late 70's or first-half 80's movie judging by the picture quality, but I could be wrong. Definitely American movie.

The thing is, I don't remember the title and I can't find any info about it. I'd just need to see a few pics or a plot outline to recognize it. The things I vaguely remember from the plot:

- it's about a young guy (high school?) who lived in a trailer park or something like that and he was good at video games
- he played a game like "space invaders" or something like that at the local bar (?) and a middle-aged guy came to visit him and said that he's from space and the aliens need him to help them save their world from some invaders. They know him from the arcade game somehow ... He'd be a pilot for one of their star-fighters.
- he gets in the guy's car, it turns really futuristic like and they fly with it out into space ... I also recall that the guy took his face off (like a mask) and it turned out he was a robot or android
- in order to cover for him, while he's gone in space, the aliens sent a kinda bio-android/cyborg imitation back to the kid's place and he's interacting with his friends and family

That's all I remember... I was like 5 or 6 back then :) It's surprising that I still remember such details :D I guess that movie kinda "caught my eye" and stayed in my memory. I'd love to get it somehow and finally watch it from start to finish :)

The video game the trailer park kid was so good at turned out to be a "space battle simulator" planted throughout the galaxy and earth, in order to find the last pilot for a ship that would lead an attack on some intergalactic bad guys.

Complete 80's cheeze - but it was the cats meow back in 85?

I watched the DVD recently on an HDTV. My buddy owns maybe 3 DVD's and that was one of them. I had to watch it.

I just remember thinking how cheezy it looked now. Not just the set and effects - the acting was truly horrible. Still, I enjoyed it for nostalgic reasons.

I saw that movie in a huge theatre in Century City when it first came out.All I remember really liking about it was that Robert Preston was in it.

Preston was brilliant... Last Starfighter was very close to the end of his career (he passed in '87), but I can't remember ever seeing a bad performance out of him.
