$50 for a roundie is going to be stretching it. 10 years ago maybe, but even the CTC-9s and 10s are starting to sell for $300-$400 or more...

Yep, good luck. I offered $100 for one back in the fall of 2015, and got nothing.

Over fifty dollars for an old TV sounds outrageous. Y'all are liven' in the wrong part of the country. I suppose maybe once the CRT is verified as good, but otherwise out in the wild, no way.

Deals happen from time to time, I got a Philco metal cab set for free with a strong crt and my first roundie (a CTC-9) only cost me $99. Sure has been harder lately though, there are people with very deep pockets who can quickly put a good deal out of reach if they find out about it.

I travelled 555 miles and spent $100 to get my NONWORKING CTC-11 with an unknown CRT. Then I had to take it to Atlanta for repair. That's another $30 in gas added to the $100 I paid in gas to go get it.

I had two CT-100 sets over the years. Paid $150 for the first (Taylor Electronics closing in Milwaukee), and $100 (Milwaukee Craigslist) for the second. Doubt I'll ever see deals like that on a CT-100 again.

I've also gotten three 21-inch roundies for free just over the last few years. One from Craigslist, another from the mother of a Wisconsin Antique Radio Club member (thanks Patrick), and another from the relative of a neighbor.

I remember buying a used TV from a local TV store (Trudell's Radio Shack - Appleton, WI) that took trade-ins back in the early 1970's. You could pick any B&W set out of their basement for $15, and any color set for $45. They had well over 100 B&W sets in there, and dozens of color sets. Almost all of the color sets there were roundies.

.

I find folks in general aren't very patient about seeking out their collectables these days. The internet and now social media both fuel a sense of desperation to beat your fellow collector buddies to the finish line. One needs to remember these items we enjoy were very mass produced and still considered E waste to most of todays population.
