Mangled RCA tube color set
Pulled this out of a dumpster. The kid loading the dumpster said it was "perfect" when he threw it in...... Plugged in the loose tubes and powered it up,not bad.
The cabinet is busted to pieces, but it does show signs of life. I did manage to save a clear case "prison tv" before it got trashed.Small consolation...Now what do I do with this thing??? |

You could build a real wood cabinet for it.

Somebody has a cabinet for you
Definately worth the effort. I bet that is a "low hours" set. Crt looks great. Rare to find those in such condition. Great find!

Yeah, good small delta CRTs are hard to come by. Building a real wood cabinet is a great idea. It would be a "restomod" of sorts, better than new. That's my plan for the top and sides of my Sylvania console, along with a head-to-toe finish change. Why not, the cabinet is rather ratty and the chassis filthy, may as well go all out. That's 1970s luxury man. I guess I've been spoiled by my near-mint maple Electrohome console.

Looks like a CTC36, using a low voltage focus CRT.

Get a sleeve of 5GH8's !! The plastic all tube RCA's will keep you busy.
They can look real good but the CRT is critical. Looks nice & brite with strong snow so this may be a good un. Usually you can change one low level tube at a time & see slow improvement with each one. They also all seemed to need the 41.25 & 4.5 traps tweaked. 73 Zeno LFOD ! |

I built a cabinet for a Sony 27". The original cabinet was SO brittle that every time you moved it, a new crack would develop.
You'll need a scroll saw (to cut the CRT opening). Use all 3/4" plywood and brace everywhere with 2x2's. It now looks like a commercial monitor.

Nice looking pos. Have you fully inspected all the circuit boards? If one of them cracked when it got chucked... it'll be 'fun' to repair that.
I'm with making a new case. Or... maybe make no case at all. Like just a bare frame to hold the CRT and boards. might look cool. Hey, you could surround it in plexiglass. |

I would have to fully dismantle the set to repair the cabinet anyway. |

. How in the world did you get color tv's out of prison? If it has been more than 7 years you can tell the truth without fear of being thrown back in the slammer for taking the tv's we the tax payers own!

You buy them at garage sales. The prisoner gets released. He saved money
from his prison job to buy it. He gets to keep it. He sells it for $8. |

Maybe a new topic? Prison tv's? Mental hospitals too.
I wondr if any had round color sets? I expect the nut house did. Colors might help occupy their loose thoughts.
