Not worth $4500 if the top and control covers are missing. AND, how does he know that "the tube works."? Looks like if it's plugged in, all the magic smoke will be released.

Been for sale for months, one in better condition went for only $1500 recently so that guy is dreaming.

Isn't it surprising how the internet has brought up so many ultra rare and one-of-a-kind items to light? this seems to be the case lately with early color and pre-war sets, see a lot of stuff coming up with astronomical prices but the condition just isn't there.. if this had a good GP 22 you could swap it to a different set however with all the parts that are missing in the unknown condition which is most likely aired GP 22 I'd say he's about $600 or $700 too high on his price

Maybe if he is in the uninvested crowd, he could have plugged it in and something came up on the tube?

If the tube worked he'd have posted evidence to that effect, like an image on the screen. As it stands, it's worth around $800 considering the condition it's in maybe less.

If the tube is good but the deflection circuits are bad, that wouldn't work. And it's a good bet that the circuits need recapping, so it's unlikely that you'd see anything on the screen. Showing a CRT tester showing a good indication would be what I could reasonably expect.
