Wanted: 6J9 tube

Need one for my 1076 Television Analyst....I can't find any of these for sale unless I want to order from Russia or China.

Anyone have one to sell?

Looking at the schematic for the 1076 I don't see a 6j9... what is it used for in the instrument?

Not certain. It's shielded and mounted between two crystals on a separate chassis on the backside of the front, and is the only horizontally mounted tube in the unit.

On the second page of the schematic 2 xtals are shown near v-17, which is a 6AN8... wonder if somebody made a goofy substitution?

A 6J9 was one of the handful of types with 10 pins, 9 as normal and one in the center. A triple triode. Is that what you actually have?

There is a Russian/Chinese tube with the same designation, but it is NOT the same as a RETMA 6J9. It is roughly equivalent to a 6688 or E180F. It has only 9 pins.

Yep....it has a center pin. I've never seen one before.

Thought I had one for you in my oddball tube box, but I looked and it was the OTHER 9+1 pin type, the 6C9 dual tetrode.

There were actually 2 different 10 pin tube bases. This "9+1" type (properly called a "Decar" or B10G base) was a Sylvania design, used (as far as I know) only on the 6C9 and 6J9. The other ("Decal", or B10B) was a European design with 10 pins in a circle, with a gap similar to the common 9 pin base. the 6Y9/EFL200 is an example.

So is there actually a known model/variation of the 1076 that uses a 6J9? anybody here have that variation? or was this an incorrect substitution for the 6AN8 (v-17) made sometime in the past?

The unit I have also has the 6J9 in the V-17 location and it is indicated on the tube location diagram.

It tests weak, but it's making a picture now. One dead tube, 3 shorted tubes, and a 5AN8 put in place of where the 6AN8 should have been.

I'll keep hunting, but for now everything's much better than it was
