1968 Westinghouse JetLine
My neighbor gave me this 1968 Westinghouse JetLine tv. It keeps blowing the fuse attached to the line and the power transformer. I'm not used to working on these transistor sets, any idea what's causing his?

Here is the photo of the chassis. It uses a 19CMP4 crt. I don't have the schematic for this set yet. Has anyone worked on one if these sets?

There's a short somewhere.. Try a variac ?
That is a very stylish tv, what a cool find! |

I did a continuity check on the electrolytics to see if any of them are shorted and I get continuity on several. This could be my problem... I'll order replacements and restuff them and see if I get any success. It seems odd though that a set this late would have that many bad, but I guess it is 50+ years old.

slowly bringing it up on a variac and I finally am seeing some life at about 40%.

What amperage rating are the fuses you're putting in?

Found a silicon diode in the hv supply get hot at 30%, so I replaced it with a new one and replaced the hv rectifier. The set works great now!

CRT looks like it has weak emission. Not to bad otherwise.

Rare & cool set. Was the first instant on set. I remember the
TV ads for it. Only saw a few on the bench. Has the classic soft CRT look but be sure the instant on is working OK. It may have a gang on/off SW where one part fails. Common in the olden days. A very nice find that any of us would like. 73 Zeno |

Thanks Zeno, cool info on it! The CRT tests way into the goid section, I just like running my tvs not do bright, plus there's that gig filter on the front too. I had never seen one before and thought it was a cool looking set.

I had one, about two years older, all tube. Hot chassis, voltage doubler, probably TOTL and a great performer. Seemed to be a low hours set, CRT perfect! |

I'm assuming by "gig filter" you meant the glare screen on the front. Never heard the term "gig filter". What does that mean? (Saw nothing that seemed to make sense using Google.)

The gig filter sounds like a real innovation.
Wunner if they had a patent on it. |

Sorry guts, dang autocorrect! I meant fogged or smoked plastic screen cover.

The "sun screen" made the set look like it wasnt a TV when
off. It was like magic when you turned it on & a bright picture appeared. Tube models were more common but still not every day sets. This was a big $ set. W was about to pull the plug on consumer electronics at this time. Personally I hated them but this is IMHO is a milestone set. W had the ability to build very hi tec stuff but CE was a $$ looser. IIRC they built the camera that showed N. Armstrong stepping on the moon. 73 Zeno |
