What year roughly was this zenith?
I am trying to figure out about what year a TV was. When I was a teen in the mid to late 70s I had a older zenith. It was about a 21 inch black and white. I think it was a 60s set. It had a metal chassis that was hand wired. The case was all metal. It had both dials on the upper right. The early versions of this type set had a round tuner knob and the latter ones had a single bar like that you turned. The entire case was metal, no wood and no legs. I would love to find one again and a picture. I have did a search but I haven't found it. I want to find one to restore. Does this model ring a bell?

Zenith made sets like that from the 50's to the 70's. I can't think of a rotating bar for tuning though....Are you sure that bar is not the channel up button of a motorized tuning/remote control model?

I think your talking about the late 60's zeniths that had 2 round knobs with a bar across the knob, like these:

I think he is referring to the late 60's 21 inch metal table sets..which were cold, well built and durable. I have a couple of them I think. There was an 8 tube version with SS if and such, the 8Y4B36 chassis IIRC. 1968 or so model. Looks the same outside, but has way less tubes with the SS If and a few other SS parts. They all usually have a 6JN6 H-out tube, 6GK6 vertical out and 6Z10 audio out tube.

I think you folks are right on the money. I had been looking for late 50s to early 60s. From what you have posted it may have been later. It had similar knobs to that but probably thinner. It was Black and white not color. The entire case was metal, nothing fancy. It had a metal chassis only, no PC boards. It had tubes no transistors. It was built like a tank and lasted. I wish I had saved them. I want to find one to redo. Thanks for the input, now I am on to looking for it.

Must have been 14N22 chassis or an earlier version. At
first glance they all look the same but there are differences. CRT was always mounted to chassis. They were indestructible. Also had the best tuner/IF in any set. Could pull in fringe stations the NO other TV could get at all. IMHO and others they were the best B&W ever built by anyone, anywhere at any time. Still lots out there. 73 Zeno |
