1974 rca xl-100
This is the set I bought at the RCA service man's Estate.. Another friend also saved some slides from there as well.
Looks like this one was in the same house since new. The first picture is dated July 1974.. Looks like the Watergate hearings! The second is a year or two later.. One of my favorite stations out of Canada, where I first saw Dr. Who! You had to have a good antenna/amp combo to get that one. Last edited by captainmoody; 12-30-2015 at 01:39 PM. |

I always liked the looks of RCA from the 70's. They were very "clean" looking.

Wow. This is a complete history of all his sets! It started with an RCA b/w, then the 16, then an 36, then the XL-100.
Here are some more pics. Sorry for the poor quality.. These are pictures of slides, shown on my dingy wall! Last edited by captainmoody; 12-30-2015 at 09:01 PM. |

Is that Dan Rather and Archie Bunker?

Well, the 16 was on channel 4 and that was NBC. The other was Archie though.
Here is one of Gerald Ford being sworn in! Can anyone ID the B/W above? Is that a red indicator light to the lower left? BTW.. That XL-100 still has the same great pic, same CRT, still an instant on set, and was ALWAYS plugged in! Poor thing was still connected to the antenna at the house, (in the exact same spot as pics 40 years earlier) but just showed snow without a converter. Wow, that is a great find with the screen shots! Pretty good job of capturing the images, given he had to wait a few days to know if the images were any good in the pre-digital camera era!
I agree you needed a good antenna to get Canadian 32. I think "global" was Canadian channel 42?

When I saw the slide up close, it looked like Global was channel 29 on the set.
I used to enjoy DXing on our Antenna I installed many years ago. I had that Channel Master rotor spinning that big antenna all over the place! |

The slide pictures, taken with your camera, actually came out pretty good!

I have a friend that when I was younger had the tabletop version of this TV that still worked until her house caught fire which I think that TV might of been lost in that fire along with an old Lloyd's Stereophonic clock radio from the 1970s.
