WTB: CTC-5 with good 21axp22

Really have wanted a CTC-5 for a while now. Must have a good 21axp22 or borderline weak.

I have a wingate I'd part with for the right price, totally restored with good tube and spare chassis (spare chassis is a super though, mainly got it to have a spare flyback). PM if interested.

I have an unrestored CTC-5 with a good testing CRT.

I was keeping for a spare, so if you want it would not be cheap.

BUT the bigger questions is why..

The CTC-5 is not a real good chassis, has weak HV and poor center convergence. And while I like the 21AXP22 its fragile and not any better than the much better 21CYP22.
the other thing is its much more likely go to air.

So if you can find one local from a non TV person it maybe worth the gamble, but to get a good one otherwise will be expensive and risky for shipping.

Dave if you like glass tubes, I'll trade you all day long for metal ones!

lets say I prefer glass tubes but I recognize the collectability of the metal, which is the reason I have the spare

The only reason I have the spare 5 is for my wingate if it ever went to air. I was thinking I may end up putting it on the bench and restoring this winter when things cool down. I did manage to get the last of the pots for the convergence from moyers, but I think Bob has a source that he can get donor pots for rebuilding.

I have been holding off on that as I really only wanted to have the spare for the CRT, if I got them both working then lost a CRT I would be bummed out.

Do you think the 21AXPs can be regunned by ETF once that is done? I was wondering if that is a much more difficult deal than all glass.

If anyone can do it, I can...

I have 4 duds and NOS guns waiting in the wings, so we'll see what happens.

Are you the one that went to RACS a while back for OJT? That is going to be great if you can rebuild them.

Yup, spent a week at the museum recently to work on setting up the equipment too. Got one tube done with a new gun in it (a common B&W tube), but the oven was giving us problems so as far as I know we are waiting to get a new diffusion pump in the mail.

I would consider a CTC-5 my dream TV. Especially if it was in the Blonde "Whitby" cabinet I always loved that TV. I saw one of those years ago before I got into the antique TV collecting. But once I saw that TV I would not take my eyes off of it. I thought it was so cool. You could always keep your 21axp Dave and just sell me the cabinet and the chassis. I could put in a 21FJP in place of the axp.
