Too bad I didn't read this earlier. I just left Orlando and drove to MI with enough room for a CRT. I would have been glad to help this project.

I'm not in a hurry Bill. I have a number of steps to finish before I'd be ready for it. Probably a couple of months.

Use Grayhound Package Express

For those of you contemplating shipping a small tv or a crt, I only use Greyhound Package Express. I have shipped may crt's and I have never had one broken. The packages are personally handled by the bus drivers and other Greyhound workers. You have to drop the package off at a Greyhound bus station and the receiving party will have to go to the bus station in his area to pick the package up.

I always double box with 2" Styrofoam between the 2 boxes on all 4 sides. The rates are very reasonable. I will not use UPS or FEDEX for anything large that is fragile.

I wonder if the Bus will carry across the border into Canada? I am really getting tired of paying a small fortune to these other guys only to receive smashed and broken goods at this end.

I will try to get to the set soon. If there was a possibility of repair it would be nice. My main concern would be contaminated phosphor from exposure to air over time.

I've got a gassy Zenith 21FJP22 (the gun if fine, but it will arc from the HV anode to the gun if installed) that you or anyone wanting to take on rebuilding are welcome to have.

The only rub is that I'm not prepared to pack it suitably to survive a parcel service's treatment. If someone wants to come and get it or bring it to a meet that I plan on attending, then that would work. If you don't take it than I'll probably give it to the ETF when they get off the ground.

Thanks, but ohohyodafarted's should be sufficient. ETF is making progress with their rebuilding project and if I'm successful with the 15GP22 I'll transfer what I learn to them.

My understanding is Greyhound Canada's courier division is strictly domestic, no cross border

Smile Success

I was able to rebuild Bob's leaky 21AXP22. It had two leaks in the welds that I sealed with a little tig work. I installed a new gun and processed it at 300 deg C.

I was a little too cautious with aging the cathodes. At first it appeared that the green and blue guns were good but not the red. Bob suggested we clean it with the Beltron, which is basically the same as the aging process, and it brought all guns up to excellent emission and good cut-off voltage.

Bob will put the 21AX in his truck, whatever that is, and try to see if he can get good red purity. If he does, then we can call it a success.

I have several image orthicons which have the same bases on them as the 21" color tubes. Could donate a couple if they would be useable.
