1968 Magnavox

I finally got a color roundie and the cabinet was literally falling apart. I grabbed all of the electronics and they are free for the taking. The crt I will sell if it tests good. The rest are free because I can't test them besides using an ohmeter on pots and flyback and etc. All plastic pieces on the crt were in great shape.. no warping at all.

My crappy internet loses connection everytime I try to put more pics up. I will post more from a friends house tomorrow. Only the main chassis is rusty.

CRT tested good at. 740 for the strongest gun and a little over 700 for the weakest gun. It was tested on a bk 465 with scale from 0 to 1000. No shorts and it did not appear gassy. Pics of the other parts would not load up from my friends house so I will keep trying

Radio Nut - You are to be commended for rescuing diamond parts in the rough.

The CRT alone is pure gold.

I really wish it was a solid set. The cabinet was crap. And to think within one foot of this set was a dirty but nice Rca new vista black and white. Heck even the fiberboard back was flat.On this Maggie The back looked like a roller coaster had been attached to it. And please keep in mind these parts are beat up but there are still good components on them. plus they are free except for the crt.

Ya know if ya can locate an empty cabinet, make a new cabinet or have one made then all that set would need is electronic work to run.

Folks here have rebuilt cabinets where only the frame was salvageable...there is not much to a frame so it would not be much more work to make a new cabinet from scratch than what others have done.

If you are not in to wood work or don't want to pay someone to make a new cabinet then you could always make two right angle triangles out of 2X4 to mount the face mask and CRT(perhaps the chassis too), shine up the chassis, get it working and use without the cabinet as a display. I use a roundy as my primary use set, and there have been times where I could see not having an actual cabinet as a servicing advantage.

Just sayin' that if you really want a working roundy; you seem have enough there to make it happen.

Are we sure it's a 68? Not a roundie then AFAIK. The last roundies, to my knowledge, were 67-68 Philcos. Our 68 Maggie was not a roundie and I had a 67 than wasn't one either.

Not saying it's not a roundie, but it might be a little older than you think. Or, I could be wrong.........

I seem to recall a post here where someone said that budget model roundys lasted until around 1973, but could have the year wrong.
