My Wingate is sad No one has one to sell??? I'd even settle for a mediocre one right about now. Very sad Wingate......sad indeed.

Whatever happened with that one down in Arizona, talked about (at much length) on ARF? I didn't really follow the whole story, except it was going to cost a lot to ship.

Never heard about that one. I wonder if I missed a good opportunity? I'll have to start looking at ARF more often......Wingate even sadder now.

Some guys on here talked to the guy about it. His member name is Johnnysan. The basic deal, from what I gathered, is he had a deal to sell it (or give it away) and went and had it crated. The cost was pretty high and the prospective purchaser did not want to pay that much. It went downhill from there. It got pretty nasty before it was through. This is just what I got from reading the threads, the real story may differ.

I read up on that saga and want no part of it, if Bob couldn't deal with him, I'm not gonna even think about it
Look, my sad Wingate. I don't think I'm supposed to see the chassis from the front of the set.
I also need a volume/power knob for this set. I have the original but a "tech" at one point in time didn't know to pull on the knob behind it to release the lock and chewed the edge up with pliers

Its too bad the conversion to an all glass tube is a bit of a chore. Otherwise I would consider going that route. The 21fb and 21fj tubes are much brighter and would probably really show off the sets capability.

It is too bad, if the set needed a total restoration I would be more apt to convert it but this thing is in PERFECT all original condition and modifying it makes my stomach hurt. If it were a 4 a glass tube is easy to put in because of the difference in mounting hardware. No real big mods are needed for a 4. The 4 I have is also an almost perfect untouched example and I can't bring myself to swap out it's original tube for this set. I powered it up slowly and I was greeted with a full, very bright white raster. I'm excited to start restoring it very soon in the new year. The 21AXP it has tests stronger than my rebuilt 21FBP. I've seen in person the stunning picture that a perfect or rebuilt 21AX will produce and I'm willing to wait until I find one. I was at a friends house when he demonstrated a 21-CT-55 and I was blown away with the color reproduction on that rebuilt 21AXP. SO.....the wait continues.... I'd even settle for a dud under vacuum right now so I could get it rebuilt in a few months of saving money.

Well, The whole get a dud and rebuild it thing is out the window for a while until the ETF is all set up. Three years now and still patiently waiting and searching, just figured I'd bump the thread up.....I may possibly have a line on one but if I ended up with two I'd be a very happy guy and so would the Wingate

I mentioned this before but I guess it is not wanted badly enough...

About 2 or 3 years ago I visited an old radio/vcr and I forget what else shop that looked like it had been there a long time. I went inside to ask for 8track drive belts for my Toronado's deck. He seemed like the typical jerk u usually find in those type of shops where the one guy is alone for years and years breathing lead solder smoke while everybody else is hav'n fun in the sun with the radios he fixed for nothing. With that said I liked him just fine and he warmed up to me soon enough and after we chit-chatted he mentioned he had a metal coned color 21" tube for a long time. I had just been in the company of someone who blew smoke in my face earlier so I can't be sure he said metal cone or 21AXP22 but I thought they are the same? I bet it is still there. The shop is located on the street that is on the east side of the RR tracks by Dixie Hwy on like Sample Road or another similar parallel major road. In either north Fort Lauderdale or Pompano or those areas. I could find it if I tried if nobody else interested can work with my clues.
