Tonight when I turned on the CTC 16 I noticed the tint was way off. It has shifted towards red. Before you could get a good picuture with it set in the Center. The Gray Scale is fine. So off the back goes. Anybody got any good sugestions

check the 3.58 mhz oscillator tube. It may be acting up causing the color drift. The crystal could also be the problem.

I don't suppose the tube in question is a 6GH8 as was used in so many US colour TV's in the 60's

I wouldn't doubt it. Every color set I've worked on, especially philco and zenith had 6gh8 for the 3.58 oscillator. EIther the circuitry was just hard on the tubes or they were a poor design. I've never found a set that didn't have a dead or shorted one.

Pretty sure its a 6GH8 in this set, I was so tired last night I didn't get a chance play around with it. I hope its the tube and not the crystal. Thanks for the tips.

Tried another Tube, I got good picture now, but the tint control is all the way towards the green side.

Sounds like it needs alignment for different tube capacitance?

Center your tint, adjust the burst for good flesh on a reliable show, and enjoy.
