my 1st roundie
just aquired my first roundie! rca ctc 16 with a white cabinet.very clean set.crt checks okay-neither god nor bad.i got a picture on it by changing a resistor in the vertical. it was broken in two.now my issue is no color.6gh8a and 6cy6 not lighting up.as i am very limited in my skills (i am willing to learn!),can anyone give me some guidance, always dreamed of a roundie to call my own.

Maybe try wiggling the tubes in their sockets . Might be a bad connection . MAybe even try spraying the socket with electronic cleaner .

that was the first thing i tried.clean out the sockets and wiggled them like crazy! i think it is something electrical.maybe a resistor?i even tried swapping out the tubes with known good ones and the same thing happens.did resolder the sockets.thought i found a loose ground but no change.this is such a nice clean set and i want to put on display in my rec room.

I aint no expert but i would guess you are not getting your 6 volt filiment voltage there . Guess your going to have to trace it . Might need a schematic though to do that .

Welcome to the club! Let's see...you've confirmed the tubes are good, right? (stupid question, had to ask) Yep, this ones going to take some tracing. I'm guessing a bad trace somewhere-you'll have to figure out where they feed from. If that is the problem fixing it shouldn't be so bad. You could just run a jumper wire to another tube.

Do you have a tube manual at least? Verify the filament pins and check for A/C. Or with the chassis out and knowing the pins then you can do some tracing.
Also a common problem on RCAs' of this vintage is the point to point wire connections on the top side of that Chroma board. The wire will corrode and open up. Keep us informed! |

i got it back.was stolen and sold at an antique shop on rt 33.randy paid 50.00
for it.he had receipt.i will take it up with them later today.after looking at some "repairs",maybe i didn t need it! i will give him enough parts to build a roundie to keep.i have a cabinet,a working chassis and a 21cyp22 crt.it checks good, however,i have never jigged it up to see actual raster.they also took my old philco tabletop.rca has too much solder work-3-4 rolls of braid to clean up.i spotted problem already.corroded wiring by those pesky 6cy6s.easy to spot with glasses!glad to get it back, but almost lost a good friend. it was a roundie after all.you know how we get when you mess with our roundies! |

That is so bizarre. What are the odds of having it stolen, then sold, then the new owner posting for help on it on here? Keep us informed on how this ends and of course how the roundie comes along.
