Vintage TV in Freddy's Dead

Does anyone remember the clip in the movie "Freddy's Dead the Final Nightmare" with the old TV in it?

Looks like a Zenith, But I've never seen the knob layout like this... Maybe someone has this set? In the movie it looks like a modern TV is propped in the cabinet..

Yeah, they just stuck a modern TV in a roundie cabinet...Not very convincing, either.

The title of this post made me initially thought of that cool funky Curtis Mayfield song "Freddy's Dead" http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Yrv_61eRlsE lol but then realize it was that Freddy Krueger movie. Would you believe this movie really was what kickstarted my fascination of roundie television, I remember watching the movie on video back in 1995 when I was 14 and when I saw that old roundie come to life I thought it was quite fascinating as I've never really a TV like that before except a crude B&W photo of the CT-100 in an electronics magazine my uncle showed me which was when and I learned then that colour television started in 1954, so since then I was fascinated and hooked and wanted to know more and apart from a few history books, it wasn't until at least 4 years later when I got the internet I learned more about these type of TV sets. Anyhow that's how I came to be interested in roundie colour TVs! Also around that time I drew a few colour TVs back then, here's a couple of my roundie sketches I did then when I was 14, I branded them back then as UK brand PYE though they didn't make colour TVs back then to my knowledge. Trying to ID this set, it closely matches the early 60s Zenith colour sets, but not sure of which model.

Troy, there OUGHTA be a handful of Roundie color sets in Oz...Maybe a few ex-pat Yanks had 'em, the American embassy likely did, & maybe ABC had a few for "Experimental" purposes.

Being curious of the identity of the roundie colour TV used in that movie, I searched for Zenith roundies that look like that TV and have found a few close matches, all are 1965 Zenith models:

I think me and you are in the same boat... I remember watching this movie way back in 1992.. I think this is the first time I ever saw a color roundie.. If I could find the same one in that movie, I would get it..

Those pictures look like the closest thing to the movie.. The one in the movie has both VHF and UHF knobs vertical from each other and both look like the same size..

Through word of mouth of my TV collector mate John of http://cool386.tripod.com/ there is a 60s roundie colour set in the hands of a collector in Victoria which was said to be used for training or demonstration purposes.

Also Powerhouse museum has a GEC roundie monitor http://www.powerhousemuseum.com/coll...&images=&c=&s= which was used with the EMI 204 3x vidicon tube colour camera http://www.powerhousemuseum.com/coll...mages=on&c=&s= that was used for festival/fair demonstration purposes in the early to mid 60s over here.

Yep you never know what turns up over here in Oz that's originated from USA, I was amazed alone to see John's 1948 imported Airline TV http://cool386.tripod.com/400tv/400tv.html and to get from him a 1947 Andrea VJ12 chassis B&W TV http://troysvintagevideo.0catch.com/andrea.html which I am currently in the process of restoring .

Actually come to think of it.. I've seen people do some weird things for movie props.. The original knobs and tuner were probably gutted out when they found the TV set for the movie, so they robbed knobs off another TV from somewhere and taped or glued them on.. One of those knobs are in place of where the power/volume would be.. I kinda doubt this was an actual model as far as knob placement is concerned..

I do recall several years ago finding on a Betamax tape some old movie from I think the 1980s having an early/mid 60s roundie operating, I can't remember for the life of me what the movie was called but I do recall transferring the roundie TV segment of the movie, if I come across it I will post it to YouTube.

"Colossus: The Forbin Project" from '71 or thereabouts has a BUNCH of Roundies used as computer monitors.

The VHF knob looks to be from a CTC16.

Thought there was something peculiar about those knobs as the set looks very much like one of the 3 sets in those advert links I posted earlier except the knobs being different. I'd now say this is either a 1965 Zenith Glendale or Bedford set.

It could be possible it's all original as far as knob layout is concerned, and maybe a different year bedford.. I doubt it though, unless someone on this forum can prove that this TV exists in this form..
