CRT Bezels... grey or green?

Something I've noticed about color roundies... It seems that the bezel around the CRT is either green or grey (especially on RCAs). Does anyone have a theory as to how they decide which sets got which color bezels?

Here is a theory I had considered. It seems that 21FJP's have somewhat of a green tint to them with the glued on safety glass. Out of the FJP's I have, they have the green tinted bezel.

On the sets that have FBP's and non-frosted safety glasses, those usually have the grey bezel.

Below are examples of a couple of CTC16s I have in the garage... one having green and one grey.

Does anyone else agree with this, or even have another idea between the grey and green?

Personally, I like the grey better.

The green one

yeah, he's not too happy. In fact, all that's in there is the CRT... that's how I found him. The 21FJP checks like brand-spankin new, but needs eye surgery and a new cap on the neck. There was no chassis in it. Just a tube to hang on to. i'll probably end up using it soon in a CTC-15 Beauchamp that I'm trying to piece together. I might try the heat gun method on the safety glass like Kam does. The way it looks now, it won't take much to get the glass off!

Got me a CTC16 with cataracts about as bad. If what passes for my life would finally stop getting in the way I'll try to get it running. It's a similar style and also has the UHF tuner.

Charlie,
It seems to me that the grey color was about as neutral as it gets. It wouldn't detract from the color picture and sort of blended with the gray color of the picture tube when the set was turned off. It also harmonized with most any cabinet finish. Perhaps they went to green when the dark tinted tubes came along to avoid a sharp contrast in color between the greenish tube face and bezel. The green also seemed a more up to date color for the 60's era sets.
