'New' arrival (CTC-7 content)
The CTC-7 was just delivered by Craters & Freighters today.
21-CD-8865, CTC-7C chassis, 'The Anderson' (Deluxe). Most of the tubes look original, and the neck on the Colorama 21CYP22 CRT is intact. Photo finish cabinet has seen better days, but I might have a plan of action to fix that. Unlike my 9 this chassis has wax caps, so I'll have to do some recapping before putting the rectifiers in for initial evaluation. More to come...

That's a nice lookin' set Nick! A CTC-7 is on my list, I always miss 'em but maybe someday mine will come along. I'm glad it got there safe and sound When I come pick up that stuff I can bring the CRT tester again if you don't know the condition of the tube. P.S. I'm still looking for those keys, I think my dumb ass locked 'em in the garage.

**Very** glad to see that she got there in such nice shape, Nick!!
(Hope the C&F guys didn't mind all of the advice I gave them about making sure that the "tube bump" didn't get smashed or sheared off in transit... in any event, it sounds like they paid attention, and packed it properly!!) I'll look forward to seeing the restoration take place! - Kevin |

It's rougher than it looks in the pics, but will make a nice recovery I can tell. I'm thinking I'll get the beat up photo finish taken off, and replace it with some thin veneer if possible. Quote:

I think I can get it open with a flat bar. If they are in there, the dead bolt won't be locked. It doesn't feel like it is when I shake the door. I'll borrow the bar from work today and hope for the best. There's someone's gas auger in there too that I need to return after the repairs

Update: I recapped the convergence chassis, and shoehorned the CTC-9 chassis into the cabinet. Good news is although the height and width are off because of the different yoke, purity and convergence on the 21CYP22 look great! Colors are sort strange obviously, since I modified the CTC-9 chassis to use a 21FBP22. This tells me I'm good to go ahead and start capacitor shopping for the main chassis, since the CRT is good. More to come in a little while, I have a VT-71 to finish in the meantime.

Just about finished redoing the main chassis this weekend, I did every wax cap I could get my hands on including one in the IF strip (PITA because of the soldered-on metal cover in back of the board). The scope tells me I have the vertical and horizontal oscillators running, so that's good. The main big positive I got out of this was that under 50 odd years of dust and cigarette smoke, there was a good looking flyback! The crud was so thick, it literally flaked off as I scraped at it with a flat bladed screwdriver.
Next I need to order and replace the remaining caps in the power supply, along with the odd 2mfd cap on the video board, then I should be good for a full scale test to see what it does. Fingers crossed.

More progress to report.
I'm now 100% done recapping the chassis, and it was a daunting task to say the least. This chassis is only 1 generational step behind my CTC-9 (in fact the similarities are unmistakable), but because it uses wax caps throughout, it multiplied my work x10. On the '9 I only had to replace the power supply caps and a few random ones that didn't test too well, where on the '7 I had to replace literally everything. It was a PITA, but I think it will have been worth it. In preparation for a test run tomorrow, I installed the 21CYP22 from the CTC-9 into the 7's cabinet. I figured I'd use a good one, since the one that came out of the '7 was a weak testing rebuild from 1966. I tried to bring it back with Mark's Sencore, but it's obviously got a lot of hours on it. It would work well with a brightener though, emission really perks up at 8 volts filament supply. So right now the plan is to get the chassis installed, install the yoke, convergence assy, blue lat mag, hook everything up, then fire it up after work tomorrow. Anticipation for the first run is growing!
