I was just given a carload of vintage VCR's

A collector friend sent me an e-mail asking if I wanted a bunch of old Video Recorders, not VHS or Beta but U-Matic and other dead formats, and most interesting, a Quasar VR1000 Great Time Machine.

As luck would have it the Quasar is in very good cosmetic condition, having been stored in a plastic bag, the JVC's are in decent shape too, the others are in various states, mostly dirty.

There are also two JVC CR-6000, one JVC CR-6060u, a Sony AV-3650, Sony AV-3400, Sony CV-2000 and a Sanyo VTC-7100.

I'm mostly interested in the Quasar and maybe one of the JVC's, I will probably want to give away the others if there's any interest.

Meh, that would just ruin the charm. I would only make digital copies as backups.

Of course I can't get the darn things shipped.

Will post some pictures soon, VCR is somewhat misleading since the Sony's are Reel to Reel.

Here are some pics of the ones I have here at work.

From what I briefly read the Sony CV-2000 is the first home VCR, Bob Crane no doubt had one.
It has no cabinet so it probably was in a console or rack originally, it's missing the cover over the heads and guides.

The others are a Sony AV-3400 and a JVC CR-6000U, a U-Matic machine I think.

I wouldn't think so, you're in the same state.

I hadn't considered that there might be reel-to-reel units, I'm only interested in self-contained tape formats.

Yeah, it wouldnt be too bad i guess, i remember what USPS did to an old radio i had shipped from so cal to here and it was a mess..

Years ago, i ended up with a U-matic tape and have NO CLUE whats on it...

Sony AV-3650, this one's in nice shape, powers up, the reels and heads run but the capstan doesn't move, probably a bad belt.

Eric, was there a tape on the unit when you tested it? Just wondering if the capstan is controlled by a switch that shuts down at the end of the tape?

KV-1926R, It was a Delco r-1128 wood radio, the speaker came loose and banged around in transit, 2 tubes and a 8" field coil speaker were lost.. Still looking for a speaker or someone who can re-do one

That is the case with my Sony AV-5000A. There is a switch attached to some thick wire that pushes against the tape if the tape is not there the wire will move out and turn the motor switch off.
