Speaking for myself, I never have thought much about the future aside from the general feeling that it will be a slightly better version of today. As a teenager in the 80's, though I was intelligent for my age & relatively well-read, I didn't really look very far into the future. If anything there were vague ideas of what my life my be like, but never any thought to computers or cars, or anything like that.
