So who made this?

Looks like an RCA, is this a 630 chassis?

Eric,

Looks to me like a kit offered by an aftermarket firm with a cabinet and larger pix tube to do a screen enlargement to a 630 chassis. That doesn't look like a 630 chassis to me though as I don't see enough tubes. Maybe it is the 23 tube chassis like from an 8TS240 series set.

Question 630

I enlarged the photo of the schematic, and the portion that is not covered up definitely looks like the 630. It has the 4-tube horizontal oscillator & AFC circuit used in the 630, and in one of the chassis views you can see dual 5U4G's, locked in their sockets by base clamps (the 630 uses dual 5U4's).

The tube size is confusing . . . he claims it measures 14"wide, but I can't find a round tube that size . . . perhaps it is a 16CP4 (glass round), and an inch of glass is masked on each side for a useable screen dimension of 14". The 630 uses a 6BG6G H.O. tube & 6K6 V.O. tube. That combo will sweep a 16" tube with power to spare.

630

that has to be a 12" tube,i bet he is measuring the masking on the cabinet also, which may come out to 14",i have seen others do this..

Chassis

I know the cabinet isn't RCA, but the chassis looks like one.

It has the vertical resistor box on the back like a 721 but the knobs are arranged like the 630 8TSxx etc.

The 240, 243, 8TS chassis have the resistors riveted horizontally along the back above the controls but I don't know if the 630 does??

I was just wondering if this was a variation sold by RCA for Kits or other brands or if the earlier chassis just had a different resistor configuration?

Eric
