Re-cleaned VCR and found "extra" spring

I still had some static lines, this time it was meticulously cleaned. The input and outputs were cleaned and new cables used. I had to adjust the tape carriers a tad. The picture has improved quite a bit.

So the VCR's door is broken off, I think I found a spring that belonged to it. I found it caught on edge of the hole that's just above the two springs in the photo.

As the VCR is working I assume this spring is part of the busted door mechanism. I'd love to have some confirmation of my theory.

Yes that is a renegade door flap spring, I've stepped on many of them in my bare feet and know them well.
