What Cameras at Thames TV late 70's ?
Just curious - saw distant shot of camera (squarish construction) on show, couldn't identify.

Two cameras come to mind, one the famous EMI 2001 http://www.tvcameramuseum.org/emi/2001/emi2001_1.htm and two Link 110 or 111 http://www.tvcameramuseum.org/link/110/link110p1.htm http://www.tvcameramuseum.org/link/111/p1.htm . Do you have any screen caps of this camera?

Would be cool if it was an EMI - could've been either that or a Link. Was on Benny Hill marathon recently broadcast on an independent digital terrestrial station. The digital preserves the original camera picture quality, full horizontal resolution & noise performance (but some loss of vertical resolution on 480i broadcast).
Also the digital broadcast gives us the original camera colorimetry . Picture quality on Benny Hill varied from show to show but some studio segments were spectacular. Like one scene that had a modern chair w/ chrome rails -- very realistic w/ minimal specular bloom on hotspot. |

Mr. Hill's show was taped at Thames' Teddington studios. I can attest, having seen the full shows on DVD, that the EMI 2001's were used there up to 1981 or so, then afterwards they switched to the RCA TK-47's which actually made an on-camera appearance in a 2-hour compilation special of sketches from his 1986 series of shows, The Crazy World of Benny Hill. The key is looking at the picture quality.
From what I've heard, Link 110's were mainly used at their Euston Road studios. |

Ah yes thanks, I found this in connection to that info http://www.oldradio.com/archives/har...k47-thames.jpg
With UK mfgrs failing they might have felt more secure with RCA - little did they know this would be RCA's last production studio camera. |
