I doubt that conventional caps will go away. It's true that the vast majority of components used now (probably 90%+) are surface mount, but not many 630 volt caps are being used on surface mount boards. Same goes for 450 V electrolytics. Over time, the number of manufacturers of these parts may be reduced, but I can't see them going away completely any time soon.

Take it off the disabled list

I packed up the Saab with parts, prints and equipment and made the trek to Rochester. Nice ride. The issue was missing B+ to the plate of the 6CL6 1st video. Corroded connection inside the ballast cage where the voltage divider is located. That set was in my collection at one time, it was nice to see it again in a very good home. Kirk Out
