Chad,

If I had a good place to store the junk sets so they wouldn't be in the way, I'd probably save them. My problem is that I just barely have enough room here to store the good ones!

I had considered bringing them up to my camp in the woods. I could possibly squeeze a few in the garage there, but I am trying to avoid cluttering up my camp with tv's like i have my house!

Here is an example of one of the 'junk' sets I brought home. This is the ctc-16 with remote control. Not pretty... is it?!

I hope to find another cabinet to put this chassis in.

Charlie,

I have a metal cabinet in pretty good shape for that CTC 16. It is done up in fake blonde wood. I do not have the legs for it though. I will take pictures of it tomorrow.

Attn: Polaraman

The color set turned out to be a Setchell Carlson. The cabinet has issues on one side, but, if your handy with wood, I think you'll be able to put a new piece of veneer on it. The top is a little bad on that side as well. It will be worth the work because this is a very interesting set with a very unique chassis.

Here are the photos of the outside. All of the controls are in a pull down door. That's kinda neat. At the bottom, you'll notice an opening. There is supposed to be a wooden panel there to hide the convergence controls at the front bottom. I looked around for the panel, but could not find it. Sorry. Could probably make one really easy.

Now for the interesting part. This is a modular tube chassis! Check out all the different sections. It appears that you remove a few screws from each section and that section comes out! Way cool!

The model of this is marked CL83. I found a 3CL83 listed in Sams 913-1. I dont have that one, so, you'll need to find one. It uses the 25axp22 tube, but was kinda weak on the red gun. I dug thru and found a loose crt that tested excellent, so, I brought is home also and you can take it with you when you pick up the set.

The chassis in this set really makes this unique! I think you'll enjoy restoring this.

and more. As you can see, this place was a real grave yard. Had to go thru a lot of stuff to find the better pieces.

That Setchell-talk about a horse of a different color! Sure was designed with the serviceman in mind. Lots of good selling points but I guess the competition was just too much for them? That would have to have been one of their last sets. When I read you saying it was a tube modular chassis I expected this to be like some Motorola's and others, which had printed circuit modules with tubes on them. But man, this is different! And the chassis really looks clean! Well worth saving!

In the first inside pic, that roundie is the same as my -15. Only other one I've seen. You really found something when you found this place. Could there be many such stashes left out there? I've really got to track down the repairman in the next town, who has a building the same size as this one. The one time I was in there (just in the doorway) the place was just a wall of tv's. I've always figured they were all later model, but who knows? The guy is just so hard to get a hold of, he does shift work at (believe it or not) a tampon factory! (no punchline provided) Seeing stuff like this really gets me to daydreaming about what I might find!

Charlie, your Setchell portable will have the same "Unitized" modular construction.

Looks like that chassis is Aluminum?

That CTC15 you're spotting there is a remote set. Was a really nice set at some time in the past... but not today. Legs breaking off, cabinet falling apart, crt is toast. It does have a new flyback, though. I plan to pull the chassis and bring home.

Yes, that SC set sure is neat. It's a shame about the side of the cabinet, but, it's not so bad that it can't be fixed. That chassis is awesome! I will look at it closer in a day or two. I'm glad Polaraman wanted it... if it wasn't for that, I would have never looked inside it... much less save it from the trash man!
