I found Back to the Future on VHS. The DVD version is hard to get on its own, the trilogy is expensive, and I don't care for the second movie. I also found a good phone to replace my crappy GE on which the keys don't always respond. This one isn't actually mine, but it's the same model:

Picked up a Mavica FD100 digicam the other day, one of the last models to take a floppy disk. It came with all the accessories and manuals and whatnot, and it works perfectly... even the battery still holds a good charge.
The same thrift shop was also having a sale on all their tapes and records and such, for 10 cents apiece... the records were all crap, just the usual scratched-up and moldy Christmas and gospel fare, but I did get 30-someodd VHS movies. |

The Zenith stereo I have, that uses the 50FE5, is a smaller console. It uses 6X9 base speakers and 3" hard cone tweeters. It has a large, solid FM/AM, multiplex tuner with a large power transformer and that dinky 3 tube SE amplifier. |

I actually work at this thrift store right now, so a 25% staff discount applies to all prices.
1) Various VHS tapes, can't really be bothered to list them. 2) A die-cast scale model of a first-gen Corvette, flawless as far as I can tell, with opening doors, a detailed engine compartment and front wheels that turn with the steering wheel. Only a buck. 3) A 1970 (?) Sony b&w portable TV, model TV-950. Great shape, but dirty tuner. Not really something that I would usually go for, but it was there and it was five bucks. If nothing else it will make a nice decorative piece. 4) For my sub-collection of analog cable boxes, a Philips Colour Voice 2301. It's not the Colour Voice 1000 I have been after, but it's a start. 4 bucks. |

I went back to that thrift store from my previous post... turns out the 10 cent sale on books and tapes and such was just the beginnings of a going-out-of-business sale. That's the third thrift shop closing down in as many months.
But, on the up side, it meant there were deals to be had. They'd brought out all the stuff from the back that they'd never got round to sorting, and it was pretty much an 'anything goes' sale. Got a Panasonic DMR-ES30V DVD-RW/VCR combo unit, another 60 or so movies, mostly VHS but also a couple on Beta, an APC 750VA UPS, a little Dirt Devil handheld carpet cleaner, a couple '50s/'60s-era Sylvania circline fluorescent tubes, a 100base-FX fiber media converter, two Zyxel 660 DSL modems, a Pyrex divided serving dish, a CD Stomper labelling kit with an unopened 150 pack of labels, and a non-working Dell 15" LCD monitor (which I have since repaired). Total price came out to 16 dollars and change. |
